I don't know if it is of much interest, but I thought I would post what I personally would like to see from D20 publishers. Generally, I do not like settings as I do a homebrew campaign. However, of course, I own several setting books and raid them for inspiration and ideas, but I digress. Some of things on my wishlist may already be out and I just have been stuck in my hole too much lately. Anyway, back to my wish list:
1. A monster book that provides levels for monsters. Instead of adding ranger levels to a gnoll, why not just add gnoll levels? Same for trolls, ogres, etc. This would basically work for all humanoid type creatures. Perhaps as the gnoll advances they gain special abilities or access to gnoll-specific feats and such. I would foresee them still having a ranger slant but also have access to such things as Vicious Bite feat, Great Loping feat, etc. Also, if I want to make, for example, a special breed of gnolls, perhaps the Grey Gnolls of the Underwood Forest, I could just assign a level and apply the same special feat to the gnolls. Leaders of the Grey Gnolls would simply be a bit higher in level with the same special feat as the others, but perhaps with additional ones or abilities as well.
2. How To Homebrew books. What I mean here is how to create homebrew campaigns. How to create a mythology, how to create a nation, how to create city, etc. There are many examples of pantheons, nations, cities but nothing I have seen that gives a homebrewer any information on how to create a viable, balanced, and interesting pantheon/nation/city.
3. Alternate sub-systems. For example, alternate magic system, alternate combat system, etc. For example, there has been talk of doing a DR armor system instead of an AC. This kind of tweaks catch my interest.
Of course, this is all just one gamer's wish list... but a gamer can dream, can't he?
Thanks.
