One in a million?

well...

fighter for all the weapon proficiency's and two extra feats +2 bab, and increase to Fort save...

personally, i hate the arcane trickster...sorry, just completely dislike the idea...

i won't be suffering MC penalties as Sorceror is the Favored class, and the Rogue and Fighter levels are within 1 of each other

i've decided however to only take Rogue2/Fighter2/Sorceror16 as this allows me to get up to level 8 spells, cast them 3 times a day, but unfortunatly only one spell...we however have a house rule that if you take 8 solid hours of doing nothing but 'uncommiting' the spell from memory/spirit/blood you rid yourself of the spell...it then takes another day of light activity to be able to gain another spell...in this way, sorcerors in our world can have some more versitility...though they have to have seen the new spell they want, they can't just 'get it'.

get drunk alot eh? i like that....

sleep around...hmmm....oh wait, that wasn't on the list *blush*

Actually, I've never read them. But it's hardly an original concept, and not only in fantasy settings. Fiction has always loved the idea of the good rebel fighting a hopeless battle against a monolithic evil empire. Especially if the "hero" in question is also a Scoundrel with his own character flaws, the worst of which he overcomes as the girl falls in love with him.

It's not just that the concept is stale, it's that unimaginative players make up a story like that and think they're being clever. It's like describing your character as a heavy drinker who likes fighting. In real life this may not be too common, but in a fantasy setting, it's the norm for adventurers.
The munchkins use it as an excuse to mix and match abilities (perks of a Drow without the downsides), which just makes it worse.

One thing i want to mention is how do you play an evil creature, whos elven nature has turned away from complete evil?
frankly i want to play a character that enjoys the kill, and brutal death of enemies, but is generally quite helpful, if not extremely arrogant and gives off an air of superiority (be it deserved or not).


That's more Chaotic Neutral to me, honestly. In AD&D I used to play a Half-Ogre Fighter (named "Ug") who was fun like that. High points:

Yeah, but what REALLY got him was that the majority of the party sided with me most of the time.

The Gnome Wizard and Elven Bard were CG, so they sided with me most of the time. The Rogue was CN.
The Dwarven Cleric actually agreed with me on a lot of this, especially the drinking part. We may not have agreed much on religion, but that didn't stop him.
The Druid? She was True Neutral and agreed with me more, and she was his WIFE (the character, not the player).

Plus, to make things worse, he consistently underestimated me. Due to some good rolling, I actually maxxed out stats (18/00 STR, 14 DEX, 18 CON, 12 INT, 12 WIS, 8 CHA). 12 INT and WIS may not be fantastic for most adventureres, but it's still above average compared to the population.
 

Annoying paladins seems to be an ongoing idea. My sorceror illusionist (CN) is travelling with one. To make it easier to explain our travelling together, I included a back story where I broke into the Temple of Wee Jas to see what was there. After entering the forbidden areas of the temple, I was distracted by the communion wine. Some hours later, I was found, and geased to attone for my actions. I am essentially required to help their paladin in his quest to investigate a new evil (ala RTTTOEE). It's been a hoot. I get to play pranks on the paladin constantly. When he got paralysed by some trap, I pulled out my ink quill and drew a new silly face on his face. When he later came to, he demanded that I prestidigitate and remove it. So I waved my hands and told him it was done. (I knew he didn't have a mirror because I went through his stuff while he was paralyzed).

He's still walking around with that ink on his face.

The rest of the party puts up with me because they like seeing me annoy the paladin, otherwise I might have a problem seeing as how I'm nearly useless at anything other than illusions.

Lots of fun.
 

i find that theirs something about paladins...

i Love them, and i've played one, but whatever other class i am, somehow i've always managed to annoy him, rather like yourselves...

"So your in it for greed huh? some paladin you are!"
"NONO! i meant we could all share!"
"I'm not giving my hard earned gold to no church who never did nothing for me!"
"They RESURRECTED YOU! for a third of the normal CHARGE!"
"well...good for them...lets get some ale..."

player kicked me, and went to get some chips...

It can be whatever the DM allows it to be. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says.

If I was the DM I would pull out my, "None of the other players had any difficulty creating a character using a race from the approved list. You will have to do the same." speech if I didn't want to allow that race for whatever reason.
 

well thats bloody true though....

still...is it possible to "logically" to play a chaotic neutral character that leans towards good more than evil? but possibly has a saddistic streak? e.g. only kills when it's needed, but Loves to kill...make them scream, a bit of her demon heritage coming through...

any ideas on how to roleplay this character would be greatly appreiciated :D...

i might just make a new thread though...no sure...

That would be CN with CE tendencies. Enjoying killing is an Evil trait. The other traits you describe are typical of a CN character in 3E. Independent, and likes to do Good more than Evil, but won't go out of her way to do so. Remember that the Neutral alignments in 3E prefer Good to Evil for the most part, they simply aren't commited to furthering it like good characters are.

Personally, I really despise CN characters like others here have described. "Gee, thanks for letting us suffocate to death when you needed just one round to release us. But don't worry about it, death has no meaning to us. Let's go grab a few ales!" :rolleyes:

CN characters are banned from many campaigns for that very reason. Playing a character that is basically insane, and has no rhyme or reason for their actions is utterly inane. It wrecks the other players enjoyment, and hurts the immersion of the game, in my opinion.

Try to create a Chaotic Neutral character that is real, that has a personality, and isn't an escapee from an insane asylum. It can help to draw inspiration from literature and movies.

A few CN characters of note:

Conan The Barbarian.
Slanter. (The Wishsong Of Shannara.)
Han Solo. (Star Wars Episode IV.)
Tom Bombadil. (Lord Of The Rings, The Fellowship Of The Ring.)
Amos. (The Riftwar Saga.)
Olive Ruskettle. (The Finders Gem Trilogy, The Azure Bonds.)
Finder Wyvernspur. (The Finders Gem Trilogy.)

All of the above characters were clearly Chaotic Neutral, yet none of them were insane. They maintained a heavy degree of independence, were very free spirited, and would occasionally commit good deeds, though most had their darkside. Some would eventually move on to a different alignment, some would stay as they were, but the basic theme they began with remains the same.

You can create a CN character who is reasonable, intelligent, and wise, who has logic and a solid personality they base their actions upon. You do not need to make such a character insane, unpredictable, or reckless. You have a good base for developing your character, just flesh out her inner darkness, and why she enjoys helping people, either in your biography, or as you play her. Maybe she'll come to a revelation of why she enjoys helping people, and move on to CG. Or maybe she'll begin to truly revel in her inner demons, and become CE.

Or maybe she'll find a balance between the two, and remain CN. It's up to you to decide. Just remember, the important thing is to develop a cohesive personality, and use alignment as a stamp on a completed product, not the other way around. :)

I think you've got a good basis for developing your character. Perhaps create a few enemies and friends in your biography, and detail her more as you figure out how she relates to others and the world at large. :)

Ok, so it DOES sound a ltitle insane "loves to kill"...i more intended to bring across the point she enjoys battle, but i can't see my character not sacrificing her own life for her friends to survive, if she deems them those kind of friends. In no way am i going to let them suffocate/get crush by a falling slab that an evil wizard summoned/leave them to die with the white dragon...

sure if they got us INTO that mess, i might not even try to help them out of it, if it's a mess i might die in...after all, despite CN i'm NOT insane...

lastly, enjoying the kill does NOT mean they don't respect their enemies ect. Think of it as a much kind Artemis...the challenge of the battle is what the love, and the kill that follows...it draws a little of the demonic nature...but they won't kill for the fun of it...She kills when it's needed, but she won't kill a thug whos simply tryed to rob her *instead she cut him up, and left him to die in a village (part of the background story)*, but she won't leave an enemy to return for her, but she won't even initiate violence when she can sort it out (part of her sun elf heritage)...yes i'm rambling i realise...

Still, you've made a really good point, about the realism factor, and i appreiciate it. However, when you look at
- Conan, he was Bent by vengence, but never purposefully hurt/maimed other jsut for pleasure
- Slanter, no knowledge
- Han Solo, in it for himself, but never intentionally hurt others
- Tom Bombadil, i'd put as Neutral myself. He didn't involve himself AT ALL in the outside world, but anyone within his territory who was 'good or neutral' he's help, as long as they didn't desecrate his land, or hurt the animals.
- Amos, was a pirate, he was cool...enough said...
- the other two i'm not one hundred percent sure about who they were...

but you all get my drift...
