One miiiilllliiiooon dollars!

Absolutely unbelievable. Congrats, Rich!

Halfway through, it looked like he would hit maybe 700K, assuming a drop off near the end. A few days ago, it appeared as though he would fall about 75K shy of 1M. To think that he busted the 1M mark by 250K is breathtaking. It actually accelerated towards the end!

Unless he typed it in the update at 1,250,000 and removed it, then maybe, but looking at the graph (and the update) it clearly shows 1,260,000.

Aaaaaand. He changed it. :) In the last update (just minutes ago), he moved the line down to $1,250,000 with a note "(Which was always here)" admitting his boo boo in putting it at $1,260,000 on the previous update image.

And under the image he added:

(What, that Mystery Prize at $1,250,000? That was always there. I don't know what you're talking about. But you will have to wait a day or two before I tell you what it is.)

So we get Mystery Prize #9!

The amazing thing to me is that the contributions were fairly steady throughout the project. Usually you see a big bump at the start and then nothing, but Rich just kept growing. He did an interview on Kickstarter where he says that people have often asked for ways to donate to him but he resists because he wants to ensure he gives something directly for every dollar and how, as a result, the Kickstarter project enabled him to blend both. People are 'buying' something, but they can also be more generous than they otherwise would in return for 9 years of comics. It was a well earned triumph and fun to watch.

No, no, there was no mistake. It was always at $1,250,000. I have no idea what you're talking about. ;)

If I'm astounded by the final total then I wonder what Rich thinks. I know he has posted his thoughts a number of times in updates, but I bet he still hasn't fully comprehended just how huge that is.

What makes it even funnier is that he set the original total at just over $50k and wondered if that would be reached!

I believe that the way these things work, those credit cards have already been charged.

You seem to be 100% correct. I pledged $14 and was charged straight away.

Which means I understand even less of kick start than I thought but thats another topic.

Thanks for the correction.

Nope; Kickstarter doesn't charge credit cards until if and when the project closes successfully. For the world's largest and one of the cruelest jokes, we could all go in and yank our backer status before the end, leaving him not even making his base goal. :p

And now I failed my save further against confusion. I'll have to check my credit card reciept but I got via email
"Your Payment to Giant in the Playground has succeeded" straight after pledging.

Maybe I just got in with my pledge before it finnished.
