First Post
Well, Tuesday was my birthday (28 if you're curious), and since then I have received several gifts, though most of them aren't gifts in the traditional sense.
First, my wife, who NEVER lets me spend $30 or more on a single book told me she would let my go to the LGS, and buy any book of $30 or less. I had my eye on the Monster Manual 2, so I was jazzed. Then my brother, not knowing what to buy for me, gave me $20. That got me thinking. My LGS has a birthday policy. On your birthday or the day after (with valid proof, such as a drivers license), you get a 25% discount. I did some math, and walked away that day with MM2 and Epic Level Handbook. So I thought that was cool, and I am loving most of the material in those books, but some of the feats seems a bit rediculous (Epic).
Anyway, I have been trying to set up a game campaign myself. And in order to see how some of the encounters played out, I set up some character sheets, some monsters and miniatures, and began to play it out. Now, I have a little boy who turns 5 in January. He normally doesn't like it when I work on DnD, because when I do, I tend to zone most everything out. So he was pleased as punch when I asked him to help. Now almost every day he asks me if we can play DnD again. It's enough to bring a tear to me eye.
Furthermore, my wife works nights, so she comes home in the morning and goes straight to bed until the afternoon. That first day we played, she woke up before we finished. She watched a bit and left the room. Now my wife is one of those people who wishes I would find a different hobby. She doesn't beleive its bad, she just thinks I am worth more. She told me later that night that she thought it was cute to see the two of us playing DnD together.
Then yesterday, while we were out doing our shopping, Luke (that's my boy) wanted to put a quarter in the gumball machines. My wife let him, and showed him one machine in particular. She encouraged him to put the quarter into that machine, and he readily did. What did he get? Well, the machine was full of all the same thing: Large dice. D6's to be exact. My wife told him to use the quarter on that so he would have one of his own. He loves it. When he has nothing else to do, you can catch him rolling it.

I can't think of anything better for my birthday than what happened this week.
