It was during this period that legend records a Texas Ranger stepping down from a train in a riot-torn town and being met by the locals who said, "They only sent one Ranger?" His reply, "You only got one riot, don't you?" assured the Rangers' place in Texas lore. "One riot, one Ranger" personifies the image of the Texas Rangers held by Texans

THAT EXPLAINS IT!!

An old WEG Star Wars supplement used a line like that to describe a elite stormtrooper sent to a planet under over revolt. The planetary governor asked where all his men were and he gave the line below.

I knew WEG wasnt origional enough to come up with such a cool line on their own.

Which is perhaps the inspiration for that wonderful bit in The Phoenix Guard where our six heroes face the several-thousand strong army of the East and one of them (our heroes) says, "We are pleased to see you and gladly accept your surrender."

The General of the Army of the East draws himself up and says, "How, you think we have come to surrender?"

"Of a certainty. For you see, there are six of us."

"So?"

"Therefore, you perceive, you are outnumbered."

great line

I will have to use that in my game. its clasic! ;)

There's a table for "mercenaries" in AEG's Mercenaries book, ranging from 80 gp for level 1 to 370 gp for level 6 characters. Per day.

You could never afford an army at those rates, but for dangerous short-term duty, it might work...

Which reminds me of the line Leonidas gave at the battle of Thermopylae. When informed that the Persians were shooting so many arrows that they blocked the sun, Leonidas replied - "Good. Then we'll fight in the shade."
