D&D 5E (2024) One Store's Sales (D&D 2014 & 2024)

Is your historical data easily accessible? I am mostly interested in the curve of those 382 PHB sales, because I think that will tell us something about when the D&D spike really hit.

Hmmm... I'll look into it. I'll also see if I can dredge up 4e Sales for the fun of it.

(I probably won't be able to find reliable 3.x or frankly, any at all of my 2e sales).

One thing that I noticed that I hadn't even realized - I've already sold 130x PHB 2024 (when you add up both covers). So when you compare that to my lifetime sales of PHB 2014 (at 382) - that's about a THIRD. Which is pretty good when we're comparing ONE year worth of sales to TEN.

I think this is what WotC means when they say that 2024 is off to a good start! Obviously, my store might be high here - or it might not be - but we can't really know. Still, I think that it says that we can "believe them" when they say it's doing well. YMMV.

Oh yeah, I said "Ten" up there, but you're right, it's eleven. We still have, and still occasionally sell, the 2014 PHB. We've certainly sold a few copies in the last year.

I am also a little surprised at how few (comparatively) copies the adventures sell -- even heavy hitters like Strahd. Huh. Neat. Thanks for sharing.

Thwt matches all our historical sales data across editiona: a hige number of D&D players just buy the core rules and roll with them.

Roughly 3 a month for 2014 using ten years
Roughly 9 a month for 2024 using 14 months

I know you may also share by year data, but the lifetime by month data is an eye opener

Do you happen to have and want to share any Daggerheart/Shadiwdark/Pathfinder sales?

They're pretty pathetic by comparison. We struggled to get Daggerheart after the first release (we have a copy or two now) but we didn't HAVE IT when people were asking for it. It's going to be only a handful, tops.

Shadowdark, I kickstarted it, but since then I've been unable to get them (I know that I can get them direct, but shipping them across the border costs more these days than we can make off of things) and we can't find reliable distribution otherwise.

When it comes to Pathfinder, I sell it occasionally, but not very often when compared to D&D. I playtested PF2.0, but we don't have any organized play of it in my store, so that probably contributes to its relative lack of sales. I'll dig 'em up, if you want, but it's gonna look weak, I can't deny.

Much like Marvel & DC will stomp all over everything for comics, in spite of our best efforts, so too does D&D rule the roost in RPGs. Like I mention above, my store is very, very "mainstream".
