There's a pretty big difference, IMO. It's a lot more similar to 3.x than to 4e, but there are definitely aspects of 4e mechanics that were mixed in.
I think the quick start rules are still available for free on the Wizards website, if you're interested. Gives a decent overview of the system.
Still, it is fun with a DM who's games I particularly like.
