OOC Thread_In the Tall, Dark Pines: a Tale of Braxus

First Post
Hey Gang,

OK so here's where the OOC stuff goes on. A few notes on character creation. I don't have the campaign specs online, but most of y'all have the campaign info in hardcopy. I attached a word doc a few posts below. Anyone interested in joining in can skip down & read the intro. If you're intrigued, and want to try out a human-centric homebrew campaign, than read over the word doc & LMK that you want in.

Just a few quick notes on Braxus:

No Orcs
No Halflings
No Gnomes (or at least not D&D gnomes)
Dwarves are more like Rumplestilskin than Gimli
Humans dominate the world
An active fae presence
Low-Medium magic
25pt buy

I'm thinking to start out, we'll look at 1st level, but expect to rise very quickly in levels. So make a 1st level Braxus character bearing in mind that we're playing in Necrovidia where the Church has little sway. Humans preferred, but the fae would be tolerated, even admired by some of the locals. Still, there should be only 1 sidhe character and no more than 1 of the the lesser fae. Sorry, but only neutral or good characters please.

If you've any question feel free to ask away. I'll be "thread-watching" 'til around 11:00 est.

I would say hold those thoughts. Druids are somewhat out-of-place in this part of Braxus. Keep those stats though and consider either the shaman or witch (both from Green Ronin) or perhaps a Hudan Bearskin (cleric).

Other PC creation stuff:

Go w/ max gold at 1st level. Common language for this land is Hudan. Any other questions just post or email.

Anyone interested in participating in this homebrew campaign can look over the intro. It's a human-centric world that uses many of the Green Ronin specialty classes. All of the Core rules plus the complete warrior & divine are part of the campaign. Monte's 3.5 Eldritch Might materials work well also.

I could actually use 3 or 4 other players. If you're really interested, read the Word doc campaign attachment and let me know in this thread that you're on board.

Behold fair Braxus, a fey-haunted world of breathtaking splendor where intrepid heroes battle timeless horrors spawned by an unrelenting evil. In this perilous land heroes arise from the common folk and nobility, seeking their fortunes among the remnants of a timeworn past. Bold knights and warriors stride forth to battle with fell beasts and other unspeakable monstrosities. Adventurous rogues dare the ruins of cities and realms lost in antiquity. Scholars of the Order of Ur Nammu, fey-blooded sorcerers, and devout clerics of the Church of Hannah invoke mighty spells in their search for hidden knowledge and lost relics.

It is a dark age, not unlike the mediaeval period of Western Europe, an age of man, whose religious fervor has driven most of the other sentient races to the remote regions of the land. The Fair Host of the Dan’An Sidhe (pronounced "Don On Shee"), has withdrawn to the Kingdom of Oaks and the Kingdom of Thorns, or fled Braxus entirely to the legendary realm of Tyr'nog. The flame of monotheism has spread across the land, leaving in its wake the Church of the Holy Redeemer and in the city-states of the Quadyssian Sea, the competing Dolem faith. Petty feudal kings and dukes rule the various realms of the Middle Realms and the Western Isles all with the blessing of the formidable Mother Church.

Though viewed by many as a highly suspect and questionable force in the affairs of men, the power of magic is not unknown in Braxus. Feared by the teeming mass of humanity, arcane magic is in fact a subtle yet powerful force. Learned wizards and fey-blooded sorcerers channel arcane power, filtered through the Plane of Faerie and the Plane of Shadow. These adepts are the chief purveyors of magic in the land.

Bureaucratic clergymen are the dominant force within the Church of Hannah, yet the faith still produces many clerics who wield divine spells of great power. Other religions subscribe to a more animistic theology, where mystics, witches and seers entreat spirits to work magical effects.

Magic is employed with great care lest the powers of shadow and faerie overtake the unwitting. Arcane orders of wizards and devoted factions of the Church maintain a constant vigil over the flow of magic throughout the land.

In these troubled times our game begins in the forested land of Necrovidia, on the very outskirts of the Hannite lands.

I'll start a Rogues Gallery as soon as all the party is assembled.

Sounds like an interesting setting...may take me till tomorrow night before I have character concept fully up. Thinking of just a basic fighter perhaps a ranger just to keep things simple. Although 25 pts does leave for a low power game.

Would you be able to give us more info about the campaign itself? For example, can you hint at alignment appropriateness?

I have an idea for a full-blooded Sidhe Hexblade. I was thinking a neutral Ban'an Sidhe, but I'm not familiar enough with the setting (though I'm familiar with celtic Sidhe mythos) to know if that's implausible. How does that sound to you?

No problem with taking time for character concept. That is after all one of the strengths of PbP.

Yeah, 25pts does seem a bit restrictive by the standards of many campaigns, but I believe it is the default total for point buy and makes for a gritty setting.

Welcome aboard.

Hey,

I'm assuming you need more info than what is provided in the word document. I'll post some more info on the local area of the campaign over on the Playing the Game thread. I prefer neutral and good characters. No evil characters please.

Welcome aboard.
