This is grammatically incorrect -- it should be, "It took me and my mate many years..." not "my mate and I." A mistake Vaarsuvius would never make. :o

Actually, it should be "...my mate and me..."

Oh wait.... who cares? ;) :p

Well I hope he follows on the path suggested by the use of 'mate' instead of 'wife' or even 'spouse'. Personally, I was miffed when it became clear that Elan wasn't gay -- he's drawn too cute to be straight! *sulk*

1. It still hasn't been 100% determined 'he' is the correct pronoun to use when talking about V.

2. What elves constitute a marriage could be different from what 'we' define marriage as (Remember the no politics rule).

I think it's safe to say V's sexual preference, actually his/her/its sexual gender will remain unsolved for the foreseeable future.

I fully expect the flashback to show V's mate to be equally androgynous...

"Do palaidn ever remove the stick from their asses?"
"No, its a class feature."

Any Comments?

It's true. The paladin code does prohibit them from hanging out with disreputable people like grave-robbers (adventurers), killers (adventurers), people of questionable morality (many adventurers), many rogues (adventurers), etc.
