I will now admit that I once wondered how many heads I could lob off a hydra before it was just a ball o' heads.

and here I wondered how to feed it....I figured if I lob off one head and then feed it to the two that replace it that that would be considered a meal.

In which case, if you do that forever, could you cover a planet in Hydra? That gives me an idea for a demi-plane....

I have wondered that too- but figuring that the laws of nature will eventually win over- and since an aniumal can only regen using up energy, it will eventually run out of energy and just fall over and die. But seeing as you are spending energy in cuttin git off- I gues sit will be a battle of who can last the longest. And that's me adding rality into fantasy. What was I thinking?

The better part of the strip for me is when Elan and Belkar team up to annoy the heck out of Roy. Granted- it was unintentional, it is still great that the two sources of stress for Roy came together to give him a massive headache.

And that V and Dorukon did nothign to stop them.

Funny stuff

Each time a head is severed, two new heads spring from the stump in 1d4 rounds. A hydra can never have more than twice its original number of heads at any one time, and any extra heads it gains beyond its original number wither and die within a day.

And you just ruined what could have been a very interesting and possibly weird discussion.

Actually, you beat me to it. :D

Except that apparently, all you really need to do is carve up the body. Somewhere, WOTC decided that the Hydras should be made much more easy to kill, assuming my DM didn't totally screw up that fight. No more behead and applying fire.

That just sets players up for a nasty surprise when they come across a lernean hydra with the infinite heads template. (A very, very specific template.)

I love the exchange between Roy and Durkon! :)

Durkon: We already fought a chimera once, lad.
Roy: Oh, right. So probably not that, then.
Yeah, I love when he winks at us like that.

"Yes, I AM going through the Monster Manual for all the fun monsters!"
