In a comic that constantly refers to the previous strip in the first panel, I found the lack of reference disorienting. Along with the other disorienting features of the last two panels, it added to a vague unease. I don't read comics for unease. I read them for fun.

Because it's not important to show it.

Because in any given comic or cartoon, characters falling a long way and surviving is funny.

Because in the OotS world surviving long falls already has a precedent several times over.

Because in the end, that panel is simply meant to represent Thog and Elan getting kicked off the ship in a huorous fashion.

Because jokes always lose Teh Funney if you explain them or justify them.
