Not necessarily... The dragon's gotta be Large for Xykon to ride it. At best, a Large Young Red Dragon has 10 HD. At worst, a Large Adult Black Dragon has 19 HD.

I'm assuming this is a zombie dragon... If rich is playing by the rules, it'd have to be a Large Young Red Dragon, since you can only use animate dead to create zombies out of creature with 10 HD or less. The zombie template says, "Drop any Hit Dice from class levels (to a minimum of 1), double the number of Hit Dice left, and raise them to d12s." That means, his zombie dragon mount should have 20 HD.

That's going to be a very tough nut to crack for any cleric.

The lich template, on the other hand, doesn't grant any extra HD... only what Xykon gets from his class levels. Unless Xykon is epic, the dragon's got more hit dice than he does.

Right. So, a minima of 16 HD. A maxima (that Dragon is either Large or Huge, but no bigger) of 31 HD.
