For the record, that's an undead *silver* dragon.

Thanks... I couldn't remember exactly what kind it was, and I didn't feel like going back to look. ;)

Which is interesting, because the smallest silver dragon Xykon could fly, would be a Juvenile at 16 HD. He probably didn't zombify it, then... Too many HD. If Rich ignored that, it also means that, unless Redcloak cast the spell within the area of a desecrate, he's got to be at least a level 16 cleric.

But now you've got me curious...

Aha... Here's Redcloak casting animate dead on the corpse of a dragon in strip #300.

And the last time before that we see a dead dragon, is the silver dragon in the background in strip #195.

Interesting that the zombie and skeleton templates specify the maximum HD you can create with animate dead, but the spell itself says nothing.

Again, I'm pining for the next one!

If that was a South Park reference (I'm not convinced it was), it harkens back to the 1st season when Ned and Uncle Jimbo take the kids hunting. Since they can't legally hunt unless they're being attacked by the animal, they yell, "He's comin' right for us" before firing their guns.

Belkar rocks! :D

Roy does have an undead-killing weapon: his reforged sword now does extra damage to the Undead.
I was referring to the rest of the party, but regardless, Roy didn't even get his weapon so that it would be strong against undead--it just happened to turn out that way. So, Roy has an undead-killing weapon by coincidence only. And, still, they all could have prepared much better (or at all) for a fight they knew would include undead.

Not necessarily... The dragon's gotta be Large for Xykon to ride it. At best, a Large Young Red Dragon has 10 HD. At worst, a Large Adult Black Dragon has 19 HD.

I'm assuming this is a zombie dragon... If rich is playing by the rules, it'd have to be a Large Young Red Dragon, since you can only use animate dead to create zombies out of creature with 10 HD or less. The zombie template says, "Drop any Hit Dice from class levels (to a minimum of 1), double the number of Hit Dice left, and raise them to d12s." That means, his zombie dragon mount should have 20 HD.

That's going to be a very tough nut to crack for any cleric.

The lich template, on the other hand, doesn't grant any extra HD... only what Xykon gets from his class levels. Unless Xykon is epic, the dragon's got more hit dice than he does.
On the Giant in the Playground forums (the OotS website), it has been revealed that the dragon (according to the No Cure for the Paladin Blues book) is an ancient silver dragon. Of course, that causes problems with regards to animating it, but, meh, whatever is funny.

Also, there is a zombie dragon template in the Draconomicon. No double hit die, but the dragon would still have its breath weapon. We'll see on Friday, maybe.

Ruleswise, what bugs me is that the dragon is invisible, not that it's undead. My players keep getting frustrated because they can't make their warhorses invisible due to the size limitations. Does it work differently in 3.5?
