Hinjo seems to imply that only Paladins get to be "reinforcements".

That doesn't there aren't multiclassed Paladin/Clerics, or Paladin/Wizards in the Guard. Miko, after all, is a Paladin/Monk.

Ethereal Jaunt can't be used on opponents. Mind you, the "pally ghosts" might have some nasty ability that can force an opponent to become ethereal (and then commence a major butt-whooping).

I had a nasty thought last night. Is there anything about the ghost template that removes the effects of a Symbol of Insanity?

Edit: Ah, yes there is. The Symbol is mind-affecting, and the effect of the symbol is to make the victims permanently insane, not instantaneously insane. If I'm reading that correctly, it means that the insanity induced by the symbol will no longer affect someone who is immune to mind effects.

That's very, very good for the Azure City, I think :).

I thought all undead were immune to mind affecting spells?

Edit: too slow even when I don't need to look it up :(

Hinjo also described that room as containing "only Paladins of the Sapphire Guard", so every one of them probably had at least one Paladin level.

I think that them doing some damage to him, being slain in the process, then becoming part of the legion of Ghost-Martyr's and really doing some damage to him was part of the plan all along from the way Hinjo was talking about it.

Seriously, though, can any of us really guess what Rich has up his sleeve for Weds?
hrm, you say that like its a good thing.... To some extent obviously it is, being fully predicatable gets boring - but being fully UNpredictable starts to eventually bore me as well. there's a difference between "I wasn't sure what was going to happen and I feel X about it being this possible result I had considered", "I didn't see that coming (but in retrospect I could have, that explains X in the past)" and "I didn't see that coming because it was completely unforshadowed and deliberately forshadowed against, not to mention illogical."

Uncertainty is good, suprize can be good, "GOTCHA!" is not so much. The more OOTS goes for gotcha, the less I care what will happen next - why be invested in the illogical? At its best I can predict some possible outcomes, not be sure which will happen and occasionally be fully suprized by something that is still logically consistent. (this particular strip is reasonably logical, but many "twists" have not been or have depended on giving the audience intentionally misleading clues.)

Hubby points out that Soon may not be a ghost himself. He could have ascended to Divine Rank 0 at some point. (remember he led the 'crusade' after the gates were errected, continueing to accrue XP that the casters instead burned on the gate creation.) So he's a whole other ball o wax to consider.

I've been thinking of that. Isn't that like, Lawful Evil planning? Hinjo going "they're going to die but they were only reinforcements"?
