Somebodies got to go collect Roy's body and get it to safety so it can be raised. I honestly don't think they're winning this one. IIRC, they did get the name of the city with the gate that Xyclon is going to next. That will probably be meaningful, but it wouldn't be if he was defeated here. My guess is that the gate is destroyed while fighting the ghosts. Xyclon decides to leave for the next city and takes his army with him. Then tOotS regroups and confronts him there.

Besides, V's an elf and potentially has centuries upon centuries of life ahead of him... I don't think your average elf is likely to throw hundreds of years away on a lost cause.

Why do people respond to an observation by making absolute statements?

Try using less of a strawman and see where that gets you. "Why do you think that when events happen in a story, it is sometimes a conscious or unconscious commentary by the author?"
