BRAVO! THIS is the ending I hoped for and wished would happen.

No Blackguard (which was preposterous from the very first mention)
No total redemption (I admit I figured she would be)
No ichor

One thing I think most people missed - Miko is at peace, not resting in peace, at peace, right before she dies.

Exactly.

"Ok...ok, I can live with that."

Not exactly redemption, but a recognition that dying having fulfilled her duty (not in the best possible way, but duty fulfilled) and getting to see her horse again would be enough to make her happy. She's not fit to be a paladin still, but good enough.

Lots of people aren't fit to be paladins, after all.

Remember her constant praying while she was in prison? What do you reckon she was praying for, if it wasn't forgiveness and atonement?

A sign from the Gods to show her her "special destiny" so she could show all those evil-doers who were clearly not as holy and good as she was that she was the only person who was really important and they were totally wrong to think she had become mentally unstable and lock her up for killing an unarmed old man.

In other words, she was praying for vindication and revenge.

A sign from her gods as to what to do next... Which she recieved, in her opinion, in the form of a small crack in one of the prison bars.

I didn't miss it - it just offends me. Redemption and forgiveness offend me. Were it within my purview I would certainly deny her peace, redemption and forgiveness. These things are tossed about so lightly, so easily as to make them trivial. Too few people try to get things right the first time, knowing that peace, redemption and forgiveness are as cheap as a can of Pepsi.

Damn her and the rest to hell for their failures.

Soon makes it clear she is not going to the Celestial realms. Windstrider will have to "visit" her "when he can". By her actions in previous strips, we know she is no longer Good, but definitely still Lawful.

...so she's going to some Lawful Neutral plane or another. Let's hope no Modrons are involved.

FWIW, I liked this strip, and thought it was a fine ending for the Miko story arc. I look forward to never seeing Miko again. :]

Roy's coming back as soon as the dwarf gets his fresh daily allotment of spells. That too is clear.

Then I take it you are not Lawful Good, unlike Soon?

I think most people have had enough problems with a lack of peace or forgiveness to be be pretty generous about it in theory to others.

That's an odd thing to accuse Miko of; of all people, she never failed to try and get things right. She may have failed to act righteously all the time, but she never failed to try. And if you're going to send someone who dedicated her life to the pursuit of righteousness to hell, who among the OOTS wouldn't go to hell? Roy, possibly? Definitely not the self-centered mage or the money-grubbing thief.
