To those who rejoice instead of recognizing the beauty, compassion, and truth of this strip, here's a little thought:

J'ever notice how the faults we condemn most in others are those that we share?

This was a good strip. It had far more depth (both in terms of character and message) than anybody has any right to expect from a Webcomic about stick figures in a role-playing game. Miko was annoying, but she was also a completely believable character -- people like that exist in real life, unfortunately. Imagine any self-righteous person in a position of power who is convinced of their own infallibility.

Also, you could make an argument that Belkar indirectly caused the deaths of both Roy and Miko. Belkar helped pushed Miko over the edge, which led her to kill Shojo, which led to her death in the throne room. She might not have snapped if the halfling wasn't so obviously evil -- and paladins aren't supposed to associate with known evil types.

Nope.

I think we'll cut to Roy in the afterlife "living" it up... Then arrives Miko who annoys him to no end and suddenly he can't wait to get back to the world of the living.

I think his dad would be doing a good job of that already. Maybe Miko's arrival will be just enough to push him over the edge.

Errr, no?

The last two panels were just brutal. Ow.

At least it wraps up the final threads of this plot line. I wouldn't say I hated Miko, just extremely disliked her. Things really need to get moving now.

To recognize something indicates it is an objective quality - the things you listed aren't. It's a comic strip. A decently written one, but there is no objective beauty, compassion or truth. It is a story in which we "recognize" what works for us. I recognized that an annoying character had been removed from the narrative and rejoiced. I recognized a reasonable well put statement on forgiveness and redemption, but that was distinctly secondary for me.

No, I never have actually seen that play out in reality, though I notice it's an easy way to shift the subject from a recognition of faults without directly attacking the fault finder. ;)

I think her asking about the horse just set me over the edge.

Yeah, I think that was what nailed it for me.

I'm wondering if either of them (Roy or Miko) will end up raised. I hope that Roy gets raised -- for me he's the main character and my favorite of the bunch.

I suspect Roy will; he's pretty clearly the main character.

I don't think Miko would want to go back.
