What Good acts has Belkar done lately? Ooh, he saved Hinjo - reluctantly, so his MoJ could be removed. Nope, that doesn't reek of altruism.

Besides, a single Good act does not jump you from Evil to Good. It doesn't even push from from Evil to Neutral.

Yea, he just spent ages slaughtering an uncounted mass of intelligent beings for fun.

Do you really think he was slaughtering hobgoblins for the good of the city? I propose he was doing it because he like stabbing people.

Still way evil and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not really, no. If you wish to point a finger of blame for an alignment debate, look in the mirror while you do so.

I seriously don't understand why so many people try so hard to be apologists for Belkar. He's unabashedly Evil, and he's arguably funnier in many respects than most of the rest of the OOTS.

Why is that so hard for people to accept, I wonder?

Belkar's evilness isn't a flaw... its a perk.

Considering that Belkar is content (maybe not happy, well obviously not happy) to work with Roy & the gang and do "good deeds" and stuff with them, hang out with them, not stab them for fun and all... I'd say he's extremely Neutral Evil. He's evil at the level that's convenient and amusing at any given time.
