Ah, Hinjo reminds me of our groups dumb, I mean noble, paladin. You try to sneak up to the enemy guardpost, while he first yells at them to surrender, giving them the chance to get all organized and buffed and tooled up. At least they never knew Disintegrate in our game.

Redcloak is one of my favorite characters. I'm hoping he'll turn PC so we can keep him. :)

Gods I hope not. Redcloak, the more I read about him, comes off as one of the worst sorts of villains... The self-righteous one. No matter what evil act he commits, he's convinced he's the hero and that his enemies are the villains.

Somehow, that just makes him seem much more vile then Xykon, who knows he's Evil and embraces it.

I think Redcloak is a "good" villan. He works to keep the plan going, cares for his troops / minions, etc. Xylon however... He's so powerful it doesn't matter thahe's completely incompetent. It's like the reason I like Magneto and don't like Dr. Doom.

And when do we get to see the Monster from under the brolly???

Are you kidding?

5d6 damage (what he would take if he made the save) would barely faze Hinjo; a second-level Paladin has a decent chance of surviving that (average 17.5 damage) even given that Disintegrate bypasses the -10 rule. Hinjo is a lot higher than second level and looks uninjured just before the disintegrate hits. He definitely got the full 30-odd dice.

(Wait, I just realized you're probably thinking of pre-3.5 versions of the spell. Disintegrate is not a straight save-or-die effect anymore.)

Exactly - that didn't look like the piddly damage you take on a successful save.

Although... What are you guys basing the 30+ dice on? Did I miss something, and Redcloack cast spells in the past that indicate he's level 15 or higher? He only needs to be 13th to use Disintegrate as a domain spell.

I've got to disagree here. He's not completely incompetent; he's learned a few things as a lich, and it doesn't matter that he gets bored and ignores strategy because (and I quote):

Strategy doesn't matter.

Only two things matter: Force in as great a concentration as you can manage, and style.

And in a pinch, style can slide.

In any battle, there's always a level of force against which no tactics can succeed.

There's another part of Colonel Xykon's secret recipe for winning, and those who, like me, bought Start of Darkness, already know what I'm talking about. :p

Well, from his offhand comments and the secret lore of the saphire guard, he wouldn't have to work that hard to maintain such an attitude. The SG, afterall, launched a preemptive war to kill off everyone who might someday come and threaten their gate. When someone comes to threaten them at least partially in revenge, I call that a self fulfilling prophecy. ;)
