Oots 480!

Exactly - that didn't look like the piddly damage you take on a successful save.

Although... What are you guys basing the 30+ dice on? Did I miss something, and Redcloack cast spells in the past that indicate he's level 15 or higher? He only needs to be 13th to use Disintegrate as a domain spell.

Extended Summon Monster VII not cast from a scroll http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0451.html

8th level slot so 15th level cleric minimum.

The elementals he summoned look huge to me so I think they are summon monster VIIs, 1 chlorine elemental http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0457.html and 5 titanium ones http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0423.html, though we don't see him cast these so they could be from scrolls.

Extended Summon Monster VII uses an 8th level spell slot.

Oh. Yeah, that'd be it.

Though I suppose he [i[could[/i] be using Divine Metamagic or a metmagic rod. I mean, I wouldn't use an 8th level spell slot on an extended Summon Monster. Then again, I probably wouldn't use a 7th level slot for Summon Monster either, so I guess that just proves... hmm...

Divine metamagic seems unlikely considering how many turn/rebukes he was throwing around later.

Well, it's just 1 turn attempt for Extend, and if he's got so many "turn" attempts per day already... But yeah, he's probably just 15th or 16th level.

Well, from his offhand comments and the secret lore of the saphire guard, he wouldn't have to work that hard to maintain such an attitude. The SG, afterall, launched a preemptive war to kill off everyone who might someday come and threaten their gate. When someone comes to threaten them at least partially in revenge, I call that a self fulfilling prophecy. ;)

Well, here's the thing... So far we only know Redcloak's side of the story, which basically goes "WAAA YOU KILLED MY FAMILY! I SWEAR VENGANCE ON ALL YOU HUMANS!" Yeah, the SG launched a preemptive strike on a village cult that, at least to the Azurites, comes off as a nihilist cult threatening the whole world.

I'm not saying Redcloak can't justify his thirst for vengeance and hatred, but his victim act is really, really starting to wear thin, considering that by now, he's basically done ten times worst to the Azurites then what was ever done to him. It's only fortunate the citizens of Azure City were mostly evacuated before the invasion, because I'm quite certain he would've showed them absolutely no mercy whatsoever.

Redcloak's got a long ways to go before I consider him worthy of being a hero.. a long, long ways that I don't think he's going to take.

so, we only know redcloak's side of the story, but yes the azurites by the word of one of their own launched a "preemptive strike." Which is it?

(what exactly is wrong with "you killed my family, I swear vengance" as a motivation anyway? I've seen half a dozen PCs get by with as much or less. It's better than "you killed the mentor of my dad who I don't even like, I swear vengance." :p )

One thing I can say for the latter.... it has inherent comedic possibilities that the former doesn't. ;)

I can accept Redcloak's motivation.. What I'm sick and tired of is his holier-then-thou "I'm entitled to this because of my loss" attitude. There's nothing worst then a villain who thinks he's the good guy, because whatever evils he performs, he does so unburdened by his own conscience.

I hope that when the day comes that he's defeated, he comes to realize he's become everything he ever hated... ...Moments before he's killed.

Swearing revenge on the organization that did the wrong to you, like the Sapphire Guard, would be one thing and suitable for a PC.

Swearing revenge on their entire civilization (especially a non-evil civilization) and leading an army to level their cities, attack civilian refugee ships, and in the process attempt to unleash a god-killing abomination that can destroy the world (or at least be complicit in a plan to enslave it and conquer the world), however is way, way over the line.
