Note that those panels aren't in order. The baby in Ma Greenhilt's arms is Roy's sister (Roy is too old there). The baby hiding behind Ma Greenhilt's chair, THAT's our little brother.

i have cried for characters, but but i felt nothing for this one. sorry. I don't doubt that for some of you this a powerful strip, but for me, it just wasn't.

Ummm ... where do you get that from? The flashbacks are of roy; why would rich show anyone other then roy? Yea, roy's mom doesn't age, but how much aging can a stick figure do in "4 years" between the first flashback and the second? Rich was trying to show that Roy wanted that sword all his life, from when he was in diapers, to when he was learning to pretend to when he rebelled against his father.

Not showing the panels in order and featuring someone in the panels other then roy just don't make sense for that scene.

It's all in personal relations to the situation, no problem there. It was even MORE powerful to me when I realize now that this was a setup that was possibly planned over a year in advance! (issue 113 to 496)

It is a small mistake, but it's reasonable if you miss the panel divider between the mother and the next of Roy clutching the sword. It almost looks like the flashback of his mother is looking right at him as she's talking.

So, flashback panels: Roy as a baby, Roy as a youngster with his baby brother, Roy as a teen.
