OOTS 496: Responsible

There was a time, oh about four years ago, when I was a cranky sarcastic hardened shell of a man who would have scoffed at people who would get emotional about a comic strip like this.

Since then I have had two children of my own and now I'm a complete softy. Things like this just tear me apart.

Well done, Rich. Well done.

Ummm ... where do you get that from? The flashbacks are of roy; why would rich show anyone other then roy? Yea, roy's mom doesn't age, but how much aging can a stick figure do in "4 years" between the first flashback and the second? Rich was trying to show that Roy wanted that sword all his life, from when he was in diapers, to when he was learning to pretend to when he rebelled against his father.

Not showing the panels in order and featuring someone in the panels other then roy just don't make sense for that scene.
Yeah, my bad. I didn't make out the dividing lines between Ma+Baby Roy and Roy with sword, so I thought that was Ma with baby talking to adolescent Roy.

:(

First things first -- that was a darn good strip, even better because it took me by surprise.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm curious as to why the child was there. I'm not certain that people that young can reasonably make the conscious decision to follow the path of law and good. I would have thought that, being unable to choose Law or Chaos, Good or Evil, the child's soul would end up in Concordant Opposition, to use the Great Wheel.

If we posit a church with infant initiation (baptism, presentation in the temple, etc.), which strikes me as even more likely in a LG church, then the child might have gone there by default, so to speak. The child was young enough to be bound by the decisions that his parents made for him.

Hey, it's possible ...

You do sort of wonder how entire families can be the same alignment, what good heavens are if the chaotic-good members of the family are permanently split from the lawful-good members, etc.

If Miko's horse can jump planes to visit Miko, (as shown here, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0464.html) who I assume ended up in the LN or N afterlife, then people should be able to do it.

I'm curious. We know that Roy has/had at least two siblings, Julia and the one now in heaven playing with blocks. But I see no way to tell which one is the baby hiding behind Mommy's chair. Everyone who's sure it's one or the other, could you tell us why?
