Well, we do know that s/he is married, so the fact that s/he has kids isn't really surprising. But honestly, forewarned is forearmed. One "sending" or "teleport" spell and s/he can warn them in advance.

V can't cast teleport. I hope s/he can cast Sending. S/he might have to beg what's left of the party to help him/her.

If V's mate and children are like 3rd level, a Sending giving them a few rounds warning is not going to help them against an ancient black dragon. At all.

And Sending to the party won't help either, since no one in the fleet can Teleport. If they could, then they would have shown up in Greysky after the cleric of Loki cast Sending to Durkon. They didn't.

Of course, there IS someone who can Teleport himself nearby...too bad he's under the effects of a Dimensional Anchor (a non-dismissable spell, no less!) and seems to have disappeared.
