And yes, V now has to deal with the consequences of making the pact. Needless to say, V is now screwed, but V also needs a lesson in humility badly.

V has had more lessons in humility than anyone else in the comic. Aside from killing dragons and a noble, V's adventuring life has been constantly wrought with failure. If anyone needs a lesson to cut them down to size, it's Belkar, and possibly Roy.

What V really needs is some sort of enlightenment.

Belkar seems to have learned quite a bit of humility (at least enough to fake it) while suffering from the activation of the mark of justice and Roy...his death was certainly somewhat humbling for him. I'm not sure where, before now, V has had actual humbling...yes, he has met with frustration and minor missteps, but until now I can't really remember anything majorly bad happening as a direct consequence of his own actions. Of course, my memory sucks, so anyone is welcome to remind me.
