Oots 704

Wordy doesn't mean, "uses a lot of words." Wordy means, "uses too many words given the idea to be conveyed." The opposite of wordy is not "picture-based." The opposite of wordy is, "succinct."

Turgid prose is not, and should not be, an essential component of academic work. As an academic, I cringe when I read a wordy article. In contrast, I delight in authors who demonstrate an economy of words. Don't mistake long-winded explanations or obfuscating jargon with theoretical depth; verbiage detracts from message.

I agree, but I don't think Rich is particularly guilty on this score.

Order of the Stick #704 is up
I hate to say it, but not interested any more. The updates are too slow nowadays, and have been for a long while. I just un-bookmarked it. :(

I still check the forums from time to time, so maybe I'll catch a few strips in passing. But really I think it will be easier to follow the story by just ignoring it for 3 years and then buying the next book in the series, if it comes out. At this point things are so slow I'm really not sure if Rich will make it to the next book.

I keep it on RSS, but I don't obsessively check every day anymore. It really needs to be at least 2/week to be worthwhile.

Meanwhile, erfworld is pretty fantastic. I think it's something like 2 strips and 2 text updates each week. I'm actually more interested in that story than in OOTS at this point.
