I couldn't help wondering about the thing where the orcs used to worship the mountain with 2 caves and the sea with 3 reefs. Seemed way too specific not to be some kind of hidden joke.

Look at the island. Look at Banjo the Clown. Repeat as necessary.

heh heh, lets just imagine, OK, that , for example, that there was someone on this thread that was sooooooo dense (or maybe lacking in depth of DnD Geek-Fu) that your excellent hint was not quite enough. For this unmentioned and un-defined person. If this was the case you could sblock the answer for said idiot.
If there was one.
Hypothetically.

Not sure it needs an sblock, as it was intended to be overt humor instead of covert, but the Giant has a habit of occassionally being too subtle for his own good.

[sblock]The mountain is the shape of Banjo's hat. It has two caves, in the same place as the markings on Banjo's hat. The trees at the base of the mountain are the color of Banjo's hair. The blue of the sea is the color of his coat, the three reefs are an off-blue that matches the three buttons on said coat. It's really obvious if you look at the orc "cleric" in the panel above the image of the island.

Essentially, the orcs have taken to worshipping Banjo because they see him as the avatar of their homeland.[/sblock]

Wow, the decision of not going 4E (nor staying only 3.5) is awesome!
Telling his story while poking at both systems seems the best option.

Rich Burlew rocks!
