OotS question, goblin gods?

Voadam

Legend
I was wondering who the Dark One is and how he fits into the various pantheons.

We know Redcloak is a priest of the Dark One and supposed to sheperd the goblin people http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0451.html

But I'm not sure how that fits in the crayon cosmology of the four pantheons http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0273.html

Since goblins and now even hobgoblins have ninja http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0454.html is the Dark one from the 12 animal wheel gods?

Inquiring minds want to know.

This has been loosely explained in OOTS #275. Basically, certain races elevated gods of their own after the four (oops, now three) pantheons created the world. The elves and the goblins are named as examples.

Could be from any of the surviving pantheons, really. Each have candidate 'dark ones'. Hel, Druaga, and Nergal seem likely candidates. The 'South' pantheon seems to be inspired by the Chinese calendar, and so its anyone's guess what Rich is doing with that. Snake seems most likely as a dark god for the 12 animals, but even that is a stretch since you really aren't dealing with a balanced pantheon there.

UPDATE: Hmmm... I really should have paid more attention during that exposition.

Indeed there was theorizing over on the stick boards that Redcloak's end goal was to free the snarl, and let it destroy the world - because rebuilding would again require the assistance of all gods, forcing the elder gods to include the goblin god fully and thus letting him "write in" a better place in the world for his people.

(Hence Miko's insult to Redcloak being only half right - he wants to undo creation but not as a soulless nihlist but so that his people can have a better creation after.)

That explains it!

Thanks.

Even re-reading it I almost missed the reference. Little details. :)
