Malls & Morons

Would you like to see you and your friends in an RPG book? Well it is certainly possible. I am offering anyone with a digital camera the opportunity to submit digital photographs of your friends in the mall for possible publication in the new edition of Malls & Morons.

I am looking for action shots. Possible scenarios for photographs can include:

  • A fight.
  • Friends hanging out at a favorite spot.
  • A conversation between two parties.
  • Buying stuff from a store in the mall.
  • Etc.

I am also looking for people who you would feel should be an iconic character. Does someone look like a Computer Geek? A Kung Fu Kid? An Ultimate Mall Citizen? Photograph and send it in!

All pictures should be in the mall, and no picture should ever break the fourth wall. Imagine the camera as a window in to the daily life of the people in the photograph at the mall. Inventing personas for each person should really help this.

Before you being shooting those photographs, you should print out the contract included with this post and have each of your subjects sign it. When you are done shooting, photocopy it and send the contract to me before you send me the photos. I will email you my mailing address when you have stated that you have the contract signed and the shooting is done.

Photographers will be compensated with a free copy of the new edition of Malls & Morons in pdf format when it is released. Send all photos to the email link above.

Thank you and good shooting!

I must point out something here that cropped (no pun intended) up in one of my photography classes - taking pictures in malls is illegal. I was trying to take a shot for one of my classes, and the security guards threatened to throw me out. I imagine it's especially illegal if you're planning on publishing the picture in any form. You can talk to the management to get permission, or you can take the pictures and hope. Though from what I understand, you're in some serious crap if they find a picture of their mall in a publication. I imagine you may avoid some of the heat with the "I didn't know" excuse, since most people don't, but I don't know that for sure, and I'd hate to see people get sued or something over this.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Um ... crap

I'm assuming if the photographer gets permission, then it is legal, right? As long as the management understands the implications of the photograph and the actual mall isn't named and any store logos are edited out.

Then it's legal for sure. They wouldn't give me permission to do it even for a school assignment - but maybe I just live in a state full of bastards.

i've never had problems taking pictures in my local mall.

what you need permission/license for is shooting film or using a motion camera......camcorder or what not.

digicams and stillshots are perfectly legal.

As an ex photog in Indiana it IS illegal in this wonderful state

A mall is considered private property and you must have permission of the mall owner before you can do anything else.

Not an easy task I can tell you. Have been denied several times. Been tossed out a few times also :D
