Open Game Content Designation: Who does it best?

Malak

First Post
Rather than get into a huge row about who does what wrong, who are the best OGP designators on the biz, and how do they do it?

And I' not talking for us lot, but for Mr I-don't-care-about-OP the punter, in product that aren't just 100% OGC, but a mix of both.

What are the best DTP-based (and non-DTP based) solutions?

Atlas, Avalanche, and Bastion are three that I can think of off the top of my head that do it very well. Atlas has the shaded box, as Hellhound mentions, Avalanche shows what type of border they put around OGC at the front of their books, and Bastion makes everything but the artwork (basically) OGC.

Depends on how you define "best" - doing it right, or opening it all up, or some combination of the two. :)

In addition to the others mentioned, I think Fantasy Flight Games and Necromancer Games do a clear and concise job of it.

For the purposes of my question it was for those that don't open everything up.

The two Thunderhead Games products I have (Interludes: Brief Expedition to Bluffside and Bluffside: City on the Edige), have, IMO, good OGC declarations.

Then I won't jump in, beat my chest, and proclaim it is I!

I will however put in a good word for Atlas and Bad Axe.

Thanks, Joe. I can't imagine a simpler way than ours (OPEN CONTENT at the bottom of every page that is OGC) except to go 100% open content-- I have respect and awe for the folks that go 100%.

I'd like to go 100% but two things bother me:

1) wholesale rippage and republication and

2) I spend way too much friggin time slaving over that fluff text to just give it away. ;)

If I can digress a moment--

Does anyone know if anyone else (besides Elmore) has released "OPEN" artwork yet? I can't imagine many artists willing to do that though it does seem a good way to get your stuff out there. I mean, if you're a struggling artist so desperate to break into the hobby that you're willing to accept the industry standard (low) work-for-hire rates, you might as well release it as open content. You already drew it and got paid for it... you're not likely to ever use it again, why not spread it "virally" through the RPG industry and get your name out there?
