[Opinion] I Don't Like Fortune-In-The-Middle

Something else worth bearing in mind is that in the context of, say, a typical d20-based game, that there is no obligation to put the dice roll in the same place in event for every eventuality. I'm sure it would be acceptable to declare a combat move, then roll to ascertain success, then describe the result whilst in the same game rollling, eg. Diplomacy first and then basing your RP around that. I suspect no-one will die (in real life :p).

Maybe the gaming group would need to declare consistency on which checks are rolled which way, maybe it would work quite happily if you mixed-and-matched the same check rolled different ways.
