Opinions, please! Is this forum valuable to you as a separate forum?

Should the d20/OGL forum stay separate from the General forum?

Maybe a forum list like this:

-D&D 4th Edition/GSL Games General
-D&D 4th Edition/GSL Rules
-D&D Classic Editions & OGL Fantasy (Rules discussions on these games could take place here as well)
-OGL/d20 Modern, Supers, Future, Star Wars, etc.

I would keep the d20 moniker on the Modern/Future forum since WotC is coming out with its new d20 license

This is a little thing, and I could be completely off base here...

But perhaps part of the problem is the presentation format of the information.

The forum title is large and bold, and everything after that (especially the subtext describing the forum) doesn't "POP."

Here's how it basically looks on my screen, in Stealth mode:

Pathfinder, d20 Modern, d20 System & OGL Games
Discuss Pathfinder, d20 Modern and cool stand-alone d20 System/OGL games like Arcana Evolved, Mutants & Masterminds, Star Wars Saga, and the like.

Every word past the first couple of words starts to suffer serious attention drop-off.

I'd settle on the top two, maybe three games, for the header. Then drop the conversational tone in the subtext and just list game systems, so the names stand out.

3rd Edition / d20 / OGL
Pathfinder, Mutants & Masterminds, True20, Star Wars Sage, Arcana Evolved

or better yet

3rd Edition / d20 / OGL
  • Pathfinder
  • Mutants & Masterminds
  • True 20
  • Star Wars Saga
  • Arcana Evolved

That definitely eats a lot more real estate, though.

At any rate I can say with certainty that I don't really go to the General forum to find anything specific. General is a forum for "grazing."

Another suggestion would be to drop d20 from the forum title and add the second most popular OGL game, which as far as I can tell is True20.

Piratecat - He's right. Why does one game (PF) get its name on the marquee when it's (arguably) not even the most popular derivative of 3e, nor will it be fully released until August 2009? T20, M&M, and C&C all seem to trump PF.

Granted, I have no numbers to back up such claims. That said, I bet no one has numbers to support a rebuttal.

I suspect you guys threw a PF on the title to grease the squeaky wheel, and that likely sets a poor precedent. When I give my kid a lollipop to stop him whining, it only encourages to whine more often.

Wis, who had many lollipops as a kid

I voted to fold it in to the general. I feel that moving Pathfinder discussion here was a mistake and basically killed all discussion off very early. People tend to have a single forum that they visit via a bookmark, and thus the second Pathfinder was moved here the volume of discussion fell off a cliff. It is, unfortunately, a bit of a ghost town.

In my opinion, 4e, this, and general should all be merged.

I'd like to see a restructure of the category placements, such as:

* General Discussion
* 4th ed. Discussion
* OGL/Pathfinder Discussion
* D&D Rules
* House Rules
* Plots & Places

Agreed.

A general forum for any RPG discussion, and then more specific forums would by my choice as well.

I'd like to see the non-WotC stuff all get put here or perhaps put into a "non-d20" discussion board. But that's about the only change I want. I like the OGL/d20/Pathfinder forum being it's own forum.

I think that the mods should wait until post-4e before making any decisions. AFAICT, both this forum and General have slowed down a lot during the ramp up to 4e's release. 2009 will see the release of both Pathfinder and, from what's been said, d20 Modern 2e. I don't see how it hurts to keep this forum alive for the duration.

Honestly, it would seem more logical to me to get rid of the 4e forum and fold it into General. I mean, 3.5 was never singled out from General, was it?

EDIT: Basically, if 4e is going to continue to be segregated in its own forum, then I'm fine with folding OGL/PF into General. If things are going to go back to "normal" and 4e gets re-joined with General, then keep this forum separate.

Yep, yep.

I'd prefer:

Other Systems
Everything not D&D: d20, OGL, Star Wars, True20, Pathfinder, and everything else.

Cheers, -- N

Other: Keep this forum and give Pathfinder it's own forum. Or, keep this forum as is and move 3e talk into here in June.

Numbers of posts. It's like the Trouble with Tribbles Pathfinder in here.
