Opinions, please! Is this forum valuable to you as a separate forum?

Should the d20/OGL forum stay separate from the General forum?

Numbers of posts. It's like the Trouble with Tribbles Pathfinder in here.
Huh. "Pathfinder" appears in 6/20 threads on the first, second and third pages of this forum. There is only one thread on the 4th page, so I'm ignoring it.

At most, Pathfinder seems to be 1/3 of a VERY slow forum. (And most of those are "press release" speculation threads rather than "help me build a Ranger" game-user threads. Will there be more or less traffic once the game is actually released? Users will post more, but speculators and bystanders will post much, much less. So I dunno.)

Cheers, -- N

To follow on from what the others have said - it all depends on what happens with 4E

[Declare bias] Since i'm not converting i'd rather end up with something like [/declare bias]

General discussion (all games, plots, ideas, news flashes and anything thats non system-specific)

4E specific + GSL Rules (this would include House rules, character design, NPC's etc)

Other Editions & OGL Rules (classic, 3, 3.5, PF, etc)

Sci-Fi, Horror, Superhero & Modern Rules

(this replaces general, 4E, OGL, Plots n places, House and D&D Rules forums)

Anything thats system specific goes into its own forum, anything thats system neutral, or cross-over goes into general. slimming the number of forums down should keep traffic levels up in each area and easy enough to put some sub-forums in if required

that should also be a little clearer where people should post

EDIT: Basically, if 4e is going to continue to be segregated in its own forum, then I'm fine with folding OGL/PF into General. If things are going to go back to "normal" and 4e gets re-joined with General, then keep this forum separate.

Agreed. If 4E discussion is maintained in it's own forum, I don't see a problem with merging this and the General forum. That gets you more eyeballs, without an excessive amount of churn. Then if some topic achieves a critical mass of discussion, it can be spun off into its own forum.

It would be good to see Pathfinder and other 3e derivatives get their own forum, but keeping this one as it is (perhaps with a name change) is not a problem. I'd like to take this opportunity, however, to echo those other posters who have suggested that 4e get/retain its own forum and not be merged with/swamp General. Speaking wholly from a position of bias as someone who sees Pathfinder as the true heir to the D&D crown, I'd like the forums to reflect that. Yeah, vain hope maybe, but there you go :)

I think it should be seperate... 1 forum for 3E, one for 4E, and one for every other game and setting (Pathfinder, Star Wars, d20 Modern, Iron Heroes, etc, all in one forum)

I am still coming around/getting used to the new forum layout, and the placement and title of this forum is one of the most confusing changes.

It's current title "General RPG Rules Discussion", is IMO much more confusing than the original "Pathfinder/OGL/D20 GAMES". Since we now have a specific 4e rules forum and 3e rules forum, the concept of a third forum for general rules seems excessive, redundant, and confusing. Also, the description Morrus gives of it makes it feel very much like a general discussion forum, and not crunchy like a rules forum should be. Finally, very few posts in the forum are about rules themselves. Most are about general non-D&D RPG discussion or house rules. This can only lead me to the conclusion the word "rules" needs to be removed from the forum title. Something along the lines of "General Non-D&D Gaming Discussion" seems much more appropriate.

I also can't shake the feeling that this forum doesn't deserve the second place position. It used to be that the heavily trafficed General forum was first followed by the second place Rules, with forums generally layed out in order of popularity. Burying the very popular 4e Rules and 3e Rules forums well below this forum and Plots and Places just seems wrong. I understand the change was pretty much required by the new split into version-specific forums, but I'm still having a little trouble adjusting.
