Yes, or maybe they weakened them enough that the humans/genasi could invade.

And if I’m going with genasi/elemental lords, I could mix in parts of Princes of the Apocalypse. Perhaps the PCs have to destroy the elemental shrines in order to weaken the power of the invaders.

What immediately comes to mind is X4 Master of the Desert Nomads set in the Sind Desert region of Mystara. With a few tweaks it could be run with the Orc side as protagonist.

at least you have a few ideas to mine there (plus Atruagin and Ethnagar)
