FYI - you can still access a cached version of OrcPub through various sites, which can then be run offline.
I'm hoping that MPMB putting his(?) sheet on the DMsGuild gives some protection from a similar fate, but I've been concerned about it since DDB was announced.
As far as I know this is the case. DMsGuild products are not limited to the SRD like OGL (non DMsGuild) products are. But I'm remembering from the DMsGuild announcement and that was quite a while ago so my memory may be faulty.
You are correct.
Agreed. I had the same recollection, but I don't like relying on random, half-remembered legalize. Nor do I particularly want to comb through the T&C, when there's nothing I can do about it.Thanks for confirming.
It's always nice to know the old random fact compendium is still working.![]()
For some time now OrcPub has had a nearly complete set of 'official' options available to create your characters. Those not included in the 5e SRD just include quick summaries with references to the official source. I mistakenly thought this was acceptable in the eyes of the makers of the game. I must remove all non-SRD content very soon (export your characters to PDF ASAP!).
This so hobbles OrcPub that I figured it rendered it totally useless to nearly everyone. I have poured my heart, soul, and savings into building OrcPub. It has been a lot of fun, but also long, long hours and endless stress doing the all the work of a 10 man team. The news was also unfortunately timed 2 days after a devastating personal loss for me. It seemed time to cut my losses, close up shop, take a vacation, then just get back to a job where I can make money.
I had no idea, however, how beloved OrcPub really is. The tremendous outpouring of support has been a beacon of hope through some discouraging times. You all have convinced me to, rather than just shut down OrcPub, go ahead and remove the non-SRD content and keep the servers on as long as income through Patreon and Amazon referrals is enough to cover the cost.
In addition, I will likely shift focus to making it as easy as possible for people to build classes, races, etc. with the books they have already purchased and share them with their group. I also am still holding out hope to be able to get an official licence or be able to work out something on DMs Guild. If neither the focus on homebrew nor some sort of licencing work out, I may look into supporting other games that might licence with me. The future is very uncertain at this point.
As always, OrcPub's top priority is the good of the game and it's players, so I'd love your feedback on what direction you'd like to see OrcPub go. Given everything I'm dealing with right now, however, I hope you understand that it may take me a few days to respond to any further questions. I also beg your understanding in any inconvenience any of this may cause you.
Are you talking about the UI or are you talking about the (former) ability to use stolen property? The loss of OrcPub is depressing. By far the best solution out there. 2nd place isn't close.
Without content an UI is worthless, so why do you ask?Are you talking about the UI or are you talking about the (former) ability to use stolen property?
