The humanoid before you has a sharply hooked nose, leathery skin with many creases, and wide pointed ears. Its teeth come to small, sharp points.
The valley orcs, also known as "tracker orcs", are an orc subspecies skilled in riding, hunting and tracking.
Valley orcs are the most “colorful” of orcs- many of them are gray-green, but some range into browns, human skin tones and even pale blues. They are usually shorter than humans, standing about 5 feet tall, but their height is further reduced by their perpetual stoops. Most of them have their skin marked with tattoos, piercings and ritual scars, giving each orc a distinct appearance.
Valley orcs speak Common Orc and one other language. Many of them speak Goblin to communicate with their mountain orc allies, but some learn Common so as to get more information out of tortured prisoners.
Most valley orcs encountered outside their lairs are warriors; the information in this statistics block is for one of 1st level.
Combat
Valley orcs, like most orcs, like to take every advantage they can, so they usually initiate combat from an ambush, unless they are certain of their greater numbers. If possible, they fight from the back of their worgs, and many valley orcs take Mounted Combat instead of Alertness as their first feat. They work better in groups than true orcs, and are less cowardly than mountain orcs, but are not as strong as the former or as sneaky as the latter.
Keen Scent (Ex): Valley orcs may take the Scent special quality as a feat.
Light Sensitivity (Ex): Valley orcs are dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell.
Skills: Valley orcs receive a +4 bonus to all Ride checks and on Survival checks made to find and follow tracks.
Valley Orc Society
Valley orcs are another mutation of true orcs, smaller and weaker than their ancestors, but not as mindless. They live in semi-permanent villages comprised mainly of hide tents; what species this hide is taken from tells much of the hunting prowess of the orc family living within. Valley orcs are skilled hunters and proud of it, and they display trophies of their most challenging victories on their tents and mounts. Valley orcs rarely take slaves, as they are more likely to eat anyone they happen to capture. They do, however, usually torture prisoners before consuming them, as they like to see others in pain. Valley orcs are almost as fecund as goblins, and like them give birth to live (and savage) offspring. Valley orcs are as likely to be found as the slaves of a greater evil power as any other orc type, but valley orcs are renowned for being tireless, if not terribly bright, workers.
Valley orcs have a deep relationship with their mounts, the worgs. This partnership was formed many, many centuries ago between all orcs and the worgs, but valley orcs have taken it to heart, whereas most other orcs take advantage of worg allies only when convenient. Worgs in a valley orc tribe are treated as citizens, with all the rights inherent (not many at all). The leader of any given tribe is always the orc with the biggest, meanest worg cohort, and more powerful tribes also tame dire wolves to serve as mounts and guards. Valley orcs are not at all religious, but some tribes have shamans, who usually venerate Morgoth.
