Order of the Bow Initiate ?

I have a question about a Order of the Bow Initiate (Complete Warrior page 69) In Page 69 a sample Order of the Bow Initiate is presented : I have a little question in this exemple it have a attack that the Guy can do a +17 ranged attack and do 3d8+30 /x3 I know that could be his critical or his ranged precision but this sample order of the bow initiale is lvl 8 = +4d8 ranged precision . What buzz me is why a 3d8 attack? HELP ME PLEASE!

If you have a closer look at the desciption, it actually reads:

... or +17 ranged (3d8+30/x3, +3 composite longbow [+2 Str bonus] with Manyshot);....

My emphasis.

Manyshot (p97 PHB) allows you to "fire two arrows at a single opponent... For every 5 points of BAB you have above +6, you may add one additional arrow to this attack, to a maximum of four arrows at BAB +16."

The example OotBI has a BAB of +13, so that is 2 additional arrows with Manyshot. There is your 3 arrows at 1d8+10 each.

Its a bit misleading, because in actual fact its not 3d8+30 damage, but 3x 1d8+10... its quite different for DR purposes...
