Is anyone really annoying by how artificial the dialogue sounds because Rich is still trying to leave ambiguity in V's gender? It was a fun gimmick when he was in the Xykon dungeon, but now that V got a nice storyline, it is sounding very forced with the "mate" talk.

I'm still reeling from the speed at which these new comics keep coming. Seems that Rich certainly benefitted from his recent vacation. Go Rich!

It's not the worst we've seen. The section where V's mate and children talk (in elvish) about "parent" and "other parent" was much more forced than this.

Around that time, I think this joke moved from "funny" to "beaten horse" to "background static". I actually don't mind/notice it much now that I've accepted it into the backdrop of the setting. Kind of like that point in some books where you just accept the homebrew words the author made up, and don't worry about them not being real anymore.

No? :)

V is growing up, but only slowly. Also, does anyone remember when the circlet changed to a hairband?

I didn't even notice this time, so I go with the "background static" idea above.

I did find myself thinking "Wow, all that text and no gender-specific personal pronouns", but it was more in grudging admiration of Rich effortlessly dodging the bullet yet again - the actual dialogue didn't read as particularly forced or convoluted at all.

No, I find the word "mate" an appropriate elven term.
