We need a meeting place or something. Any publisher want to donate the use of their booth as a place EN Worlders can find each other? EN Publishing did it last year, they even suckered...or got me to help run the boothe for them. :D

Yes, unfortunately no EN Publishing booth there this year. And while I'll be there, I didn't snag myself a booth, since I only just found out for sure I could make it there.

I might be willing to do a small epic level one-shot like I did last year depending on my schedule (which I'll know better as we get closer to convention time).

I never tried playing an epic level campaign, so that would be fun for a one shot. Got time to set something up? I'd love to have a go at it.

I would love to participate in this event at Origins. I'm right in the middle of an epic campaign, and would love some insights on how others play/run it.

Let me know when and where, and I'll be there!

Tensen: what plans do you have for Origns? It'd be great to be able to get in touch with you.

Ghostwind: Any thing further on the epic game? That would be a lot of fun.

I will be there, arriving around 3 PM wednesday and leaving probably around 4 PM on sunday.

Traditionally I play few games at Origins - instead, I shop. There have been years when I've come home with several large cartons of stuff. Over the last year I've been paring the junk out of my collection, though, and don't have near as much clutter as I used to. So I plan to be very selective about my purchases this year.

Last year, for the first time, I actually signed up for and played in an event (a 3-night Vampire: Dark Ages LARP,) and had a blast. In previous years, I'd done the occasional demo, and that'd be about it - my time was spent in the auction or dealer's room.

Also last year, we did the trip on the cheap, squeezing 9 people into one room at a Motel 6 half an hour away from the con. A couple of the people with us were... well, let's say they were not ideal convention companions. There's a tale there to be told, you can be assured.

No more of that nonsense. This year, I have a hand-picked 4-man crew for the con, and we're staying at the Hyatt.

I have also signed up for loads of events, including Pendragon, Fading Suns, Nobilis, Traveller, Exalted, and a couple of seminars. This is, in a way - a money-saving technique. Every hour I'm playing in an event is an hour not used up blowing huge amounts of money in the dealer's room.

Also, I plan to eat well and drink a lot. :)

I won't be getting there until probably Thursday evening. Not sure the time. Steve has me scheduled for a few panels. Otherwise I never really did schedule anything. I haven't been to Origins before so it is a wandering session.

Would anyone care to comment on or suggest any restaurants in the neighborhood of the convention center?

Here's my take on a couple of places:

Barley's Brewpub: Right across the street from the convention center. Good food, and the fresh-brewed beer is outstanding. Price-wise, it's about on par with Friday's.

Damon's: Right across from the Hyatt. I have not eaten there.

Flatiron: Across the street from the Hyatt parking lot. Very good Cajun-style food, very reasonably priced. An excellent selection of liquor. Kind of cramped, though, and, as far as I can tell, it's not air-conditioned.

Hyatt Restaurant: The sitdown place in the Hyatt, whatever it's called. Overpriced and mediocre food. I'd advise sticking with the food court instead. Also, stay out of the Starbucks next door - you can get better coffee at the stand in the Atrium.

Strada: Upscale place nearby that I've heard very good things about. Pricey, I've heard.

Gordon Biersch: Chain Brewpub near the Arena. I've never eaten at this one, but tried the one in Las Vegas and it was very good. Particularly good are the garlic fries.

Big Bar on 2: In the Hyatt. The traditional place for con-goers to unwind after a long day of gaming. By 9 PM it will be packed and can get very smokey, for those who are bothered by that sort of thing (I am.) Drinks are moderately overpriced, but this is the place to hang out at the end of the convention day.

Food Court: In the Ground Floor of the Hyatt. This is one of the things that makes the Greater Columbus Convention Center such a great place for a con. Above-average fast food, convenient and cheap. The selection includes Subway, Charlie's Steakery, Mykonos Gyros, a burger place, a Chinese place, and a new (I think) Cajun place that is very good. There's also a place that sells sugared nuts and a tobacco shop.
