Heh heh... the spirit of Alfred the Great watches over our boys. :)

When it suddenly started raining heravily on the pitch I looked up and said "Remember Odin, we're your children too!"

Seemed to work... ;)

English weather and fireflies overhead, or are they faeries out to work some magic?

Oh the first goal was ROSEANNE-BARR-BUTT ugly. :D

Wait a second...'our boys'!? Simon, as far as I can remember you are Scottish!? :D

As a quasi-legitamate football supporter (of Liverpool) I can at least cheer on Owen and the mighty Heskey.

Well done England! :)

Er... :o

When they're winning...

Being born in Scotland, grown up in Ulster, living in England and married to an American I'm a true Brit with transatlantic leanings! :)

Ingrid says:
"Come on England!" ;)

BTW here in London all the pubs and building sites are flying St George's crosses and Irish tricolors together - bet you don't see that in Ulster! ;)

Ingrid says:
"Bring on the Belgians!"

(to quote Gary Lineker, she loves him AND his crisps!)

Senegal Sweden going into extra time. I can just hear a million voices the world over going OOOOH! wish some of the misses.

Oooh Senegal wins. Jason Kidd would have been proud of that pass!

i cant believe so many people are surprised at senegal's success, mostly the people who know nothing of football but pretend they know loads, but i watched them in the african nations cup and knew they were good then, i also saw how good el-hadji diouf is........come on the reds.

as for england, beckham needs to stop crying about how he is a great captain and start playing at least half as well as we know he can.....he is not living up to expectation.

u.s.a have been so lucky it is unbelievable, but i suppose with a few good players, namely demarcus beasley, brian mcbride and landon donovan you are alright.

korea and japan are the other teams that have not surprised me, i knew they would do well months ago from watching their friendlies....but....oh well.

argentina are possibly the gayest team in the world:
"oh, ummmm.....we can beat anybody....especially england"

yeah, see you later gayheads.........oh and get some haircuts please, surely you can all get a bulk discount at the buenos aires hairdressers.

oh well, roll on brazil/belgium.......i have learnt that in this world cup nothing is sure and belgium could wel go through if diving little bender rivaldo doesnt play well, but ronaldo is the best striker in the world though.

italy dont deserve to go through as they are dull to watch after going a goal up but i cant moan, i bought the away italy shirt yesterday, they heve been very unlucky so far with disallowed goals.

mexico are one team that have surprised me, i think they played amazing football against italy and desrved to win.

well, there is my rundown on the second round teams (or most of them), hope you all have a great time watching the remaining games, and i wish that england could recreate the performance against argentina in every game, please.

oh and spain, my favourites for the competiton, after bad luck in past world cups i think their time has come with the mighty raul in form as well...........RAUL........RAUL.

(yes i like raul)

sean.

I was a bit surprised at Senegal. They have lapses at times but they've proved the win over France was no fluke. Very good, close game with Sweden.

I'm looking forward to US-Mexico. This s definitely a game the US can win, as long as they can bounce back from getting spanked by Poland. Brazil -should- beat Belgium, but stranger things have happened this World Cup.
