[OT] 2002 World Cup

My prediction about the current favourites:

Brazil: 50/50 chance. Played well but had easy opponents and an easy way to the quarterfinal could mean a surprise exit when the first real difficulties start to show....

England: It's too early for an England side without Stevie G., their game is still to predictable. Even if they defeat Denmark (which I don't think they will ), Brazil will be the end of England's cup.

Germany: Just don't have the flair to win the cup and will be eliminated the first time they meet a first-rate opponent.

Italy: Their form will increase in every game and if they survive the showdown in the last 16 (which could be against Portugal) they look likely finalists.

Portugal: Could go far if they avoid Italy.

Spain: Their underachievement is coming to an end....

The only realistic outsiders - IMO - are Denmark and Sweden. The remaining teams lack either the flair, consistency or both to win the cup.

My prediction:
Final between Spain and Japan. Spain will win 4-3 (come on, better than 1-0, isn't it?)



Denmark will lose against Japan in the semifinals after beating Brazil in a close match 3-2 and being totally exhausted.

Spain will advance versus Germany, and the Germans will claim 3rd place.

Congrats, Spain!

There is talk about two of the best players on the danish team will not be ready for the match against England. Can't remember their names. One of them is the guy who score the goals and the other was apperantly important in the defence...

The USA vs. Poland match should be tied 1-1, but an early American goal was disallowed on a very poor call by the referee. Then moments later, still reeling from their disappointment Poland scored again to go up by two goals.

I pray my boys can mount a furious second half comeback, or that Korea beats Portugal. I feel the Americans deserve to be in the second round this year, and it would be a shame to see them get sent home under these circumstances. Besides...I haven't gotten enough proper use our of my new jersey .

Portugal, with 60 minutes of delaying a game, and two of the most stupid fouls I have ever, ever seen, did not deserve a draw today.

Also, heads up to Poland! With no chance at all, still defeating the US 3-1 is great sportsmanship.

Korea wins 1-0, way to go Korea they played hard and earned it, and so the US is in.

I was also very upset about that called back goal. From what I saw of the game anytime a foul was commited on the US in a dagerous area of the field it either wasn't called or it was against the US team, but at least we are in the second round and we get to play Mexico. That should be a good game.
