Being a Swede and a guy who has seen both team play I would say 60/40 in favor of Denmark. No kidding... :p

The general sentiment here is actually that we were delighted not to face Argentina (obviously) and Sweden (no fun in being eliminated by our brother-country ;)). I hoped for England myself - even though I liked the team a lot. Had Gerrard been in the England side I would have been very pessimistic before this encounter but not now :)

Brazil defeats Costa Rico 5-2 in a pleasingly active game. Costa Rica needed a draw or goal differential to advance and they had their chances. But Brazil wasvery sharp indeed. Turkey, as expected, defeated China. Turkey and Brazil advance.

The Italy-Mexico match should be very interesting...:)

The real World Cup surely has begun, as the first half of decisive games is played.

In Germany, a PayTV broadcaster has only allowed a few games to be seen by all Germans, and most games are only televised via his channel - but only a small percentage of people have subscribed to it.

So, what happens is Radio is rediscovered as a gripping live broadcast. It's really fun to listen to the games being played, as opposed to watching them.
If you have the opportunity, try it. It's great!

Regarding Football songs: "Three Lions", the English song of Euro '96, and World Cup '98, is a real hit!

I, too, miss the Dutch, but other teams so far have played equally beutiful football/soccer. And I hope USA will lose to Russia.
Sorry, but I would very much like to see Portugal and Korea advance... well, not so much Portugal as Korea, and I fear Korea will not score against the Portuguese - which means USA has to lose.

Sorry, folks,

Italy scrape through, courtesy of a late Del Piero equaliser and Ecuador beating Croatia.

Every result makes the progress of a very poor German side look easier :(

Good news for England, bad for you Danes - Jon Dahl Tomasson looks like missing the 2nd round match. Tofting also doubtful.

Don't worry, I'm sure it's nothing. Just part of the usual tactical game before important games. These are old - but not that serious injuries. Even if we iss one or two of these players we have more than capable replacements fresh and ready to go.....

I feel very confident about our team and the prospect of a revanche against Brazil in the following round makes a victory even more desirable....

time for everyone to lay their predictions on the line. like i said, i predict spain over brazil in the final. i know it is crazy, but wouldn't it be cool to see an eighth country crowned?

the seven previous winners:

brazil: weak in qualifiers, now looks like a favorite

germany: not highly touted before the cup

italy: looked weak losing in first round

argentina: OUT!

uruguay: OUT!

england: only two goals scored in three games, on a corner and a header

france: OUT!

is it really all that likely that one of the remaining four will be the winner?

I my mind, Mexico, South Korea and Denmark looks like very strong sides and very possible outsiders for winning the cup.

Yeah, I would much like to see Korea advance. But I fear, the game with Portugal will end in a draw at best. Still, with the home ground advantage...Go Korea GO!!!!!!! :D

Hhhmmm...and don't you mean Poland (and not Russia)? ;)
