[OT] A dark day for Kai Lord....

Personally, I thought the Dungeons and Dragons movie was a terrible adaptation of the PHB.

*Raises a stick in Hong's direction, then lowers it, as if to say "it's just not worth it"*

I thought it was a very good adaptation...I'm just not evolved enough from being a giant green radioactive designer to catch all the nuances...

[edit] though I will admit that adding in the deleted scenes from the DVD would have fixed a great many of the holes in the theatrical release...

LOL!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Seriously this has to be the most overated spoiler alert EVER!!!

It's a TROLL!!

A cave Troll, that comes and resuces them at the end of the long walk to the ENboards, while PC's White Kingdom masticulates tiredly on the bones of KidCthulhu.

The Ewoks danced! Damn it, now you've gone and spoiled that movie for me too! :)

Seriously though, the statement about movies not doing justice to a book is absolutely true. I'm sure that everyone could name dozens of examples.
There's still plenty of examples of movies that were better than the books. Off the top of my head:

Jaws
Fight Club
Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)

Movie Adaptations

OK, Haven't seen Fight Club, but I'll agree with you about the other two. Generally though I find the books tend to be better due to the greater detail that the author's can go into, as well as being able to better relate the actual thoughts of the characters.

Jaws and Blade Runner I'll agree with (and I'm a P.K. Dick fan), but I enjoyed the book "Fight Club" much more than the movie.

I also enjoyed the movie version of Jurassic Park much more than the book.

Anyway, as to the main subject of the thread - I read the other thread about the spoiler, but, honestly, I don't think it's that much of a spoiler even if what you are talking about makes it into the film intact. It's certainly not the crux of the story, not by a long shot. To go back to Jaws for a moment, it's like thinking that finding out how Cooper and Neary get back to shore after the shark was dead is a spoiler.

The Shark Died! Damn, you went and spoiled another movie for the readers of this thread. :)

In anticipation of the upcoming sequels, I have avoided any reference to what takes place in the rest of the story.

I'm literally almost sick to my stomach.

Kai Lord, I read your other thread, and trust me, this doesn't spoil everything. There is so much you don't know, about all the characters, and their motivations. You don't know about the whole journey, you only have one snapshot, and it isn't even a major one. There are characters you haven't even met yet. There are many places we haven't visited yet. There are heroes and villains who haven't even come on stage. I can think of two other events that are huge turning points in the story, and you don't know about them yet.

But I'd recommend that you not visit that discussion group again, because someone is bound to mention them. In fact, someone has come close to mentioning one of them here. So go away! ;)

I think that LotR the Movie does the books justice just fine. It seems that PJ has cut all the parts that seemed booring to me anyway; I was glad that a certain Tom wasn't in the movie.. he was pretty stupid in the books, and didn't seem to "fit" in.

(Which was later explained by the fact that it was a cameo by one of JRRT's toys. No wonder it didn't fit in ;))

Oh I know, and I realize my first post was melodramatic, it just really bummed me out to learn about a dramatic "endcap" to the story.

Its like if you were looking forward to The Empire Strikes Back and someone tells you that the Millenium Falcon turns around and dramatically rescues Luke at the end. Nowhere near as major a spoiler as Vader's revelation earlier in the movie, but I'm sure the spoiler I learned could make for a sweet and cinematic visual that would have been cool to see cold. Maybe not as cool a visual as floating beholder corpses, but there you go.... :)

btw, in the books, the event you mentioned isn't the end - there's still more that happens, with another good twist.

Don't know if it will be in the movie, though.
