[OT (?)] Apology

hong

WotC's bitch
To anyone who was reading the now-closed "Sniper plays D&D" thread.

It was brought to my attention that what I posted that caused the thread to be closed may not have been appropriate, and may have caused offense to many Americans reading it.

It's never been my intention to cause offense. At least not to any group. I don't have a problem with offending individuals at times :) but I don't set out to offend groups.

I apologise to anyone who was reading the thread and didn't find my, um, "creative editing" to be funny.

No problem. I, personally, know you meant no real offense. It's just that what's going on has a lot of people angry and jittery, so pardon some of us if we seem sensitive about it. The sooner the creep who's doing this is caught, the better.

hong became offensive? i thought he was just classified as a general irritant?

(hi hong! :p )

a lot of us assume you are always of harmless intent my aussie friend.

Well, that was timely. Considering that I was about 10 seconds from responding in a manner that would probably get me kicked off the boards...

No, I didn't find it funny, but I'm smiling now, so everything is cool.

I had a host of problems with your posts, but I won't drill what those were seeing as you seem to have figured out what the problem was on your own, except to say that my biggest problem wasn't that you were unsensitive in some fashion. My biggest problem is that someone who apparantly had no interest in the subject was willing to hijack a thread, take it over, and force everyone else to stop discussing it.

(Although the same could probably be said of the BoVD review thread, which degenerated as all lengthy D&D debates do, into a discussion of the meaning of Law and Chaos.)

If you are not interested, don't read the thread. If we are discussing something you find enherently distasteful, say that and explain why. I didn't see anyone say 'Look my mom was the victim of a sniper attack, could we please discuss this in a less frivolous way or maybe not at all.'

Some people are thin-skinned and easily offended, and those Americans offended should be able to handle anything written as free speech. It is bizarre to see some threads close over this, and some continue. It all becomes rather arbitrary as discretion is applied. As an American, I thought some comments in poor taste, but that is just me, I wasn't offended or stunned.

Heh - just for reference, if a thread has something to do with gaming and gets combative (BoVD, anyone?) it has a much greater chance of staying open than anything OT that gets controversial or argumentative.

The sniper thread was OT, so closed it goes. Just another subtle way of minimizing OT threads. :D

Wait for D20 Modern. Come to think of it, tracking a sniper would be a good adventure for a D20 Modern campaign featuring law enforcement officers.

In a world where many people will not even admit to the possibility of being wrong, Hong's apology is refreshing.
