(OT) Are gamers close minded?

what would be a good criteria for you to determine if a group were open minded?
Lets say we asked the following question:

DOES GOD EXIST?
1. Yes
2. No
3. Dont know
What would you guess the gaming communities %'s to be?
and what standard would you hold for an "Open minded"
community?

or maybe a better idea:
DO YOU SUPPORT THE FREE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS?
1.Yes
2.No
3.I dont know
Follow by:
IS IT OK IF WE SEND A MORMON ELDER TO YOUR HOME TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT RELIGION?
1.Yes
2.No
3.I dont know..
hehehe. I dont know.. its late. I'm tired. I'm just complaining at the lack of spirit in our society nowadays... (sigh). We've lost everything but our belief in science, and by the way, in order to accept scientific proof you have to accept the evidence of your sense on faith...

Any answer that you provide doesn't admit closed mindedness or open mindedness.

Have to answer that second question though, YES!!!!!, within moderation anyway.

And as for the other two, not gonna touch em with a 100' pole. =o)

I'm aware that stereotyping is a form of closeminded thinking, and even acknowledged that above, by saying that I am aware that there are those whom do not follow the pattern. I danced very carefully my friend - You'll notice I spoke from personal experience. The people I've known have been rigid regarding religion. In fact, I dont practice religion at all. I am simply constantly wandering with my eyes open, in amazement at the world...

I know, but you just have to remember. Open mindedness is something that you have to prove. You can't just say it. You have to show it. I know I've said it myself, but I have proven it also to everyone that I have ever become friends with. It's not an easy thing to show because of human nature. We let our emotions and feelings get in the way too many times.

Also been another observation of mine is that most people who are emotionally free, not devoid of emotions but accepting of them, are usually more open minded then others that bottle their feelings and emotions up and repress them.

Does that mean that if I don't like Mormons I am closed minded? Well maybe it's just that I don't like people in my house bugging me when I want to be sleeping.

I think what you are trying to find out isn't if gamers are closed minded but if gamers are closed minded about religion, and that is a touchy subject. I am a fairly religious person but I don't feel that the gaming board is a place for preaching it. It is a place to talk about gaming and gaming related topics. Religion is a very personal and touchy subject, it tends to get out of control real easy, people are very defensive about religion and politics. Both topics to avoid, bringing them up doesn't really acomplish anything and normally just ruffles feathers.

no seriously, if the topic got hateful, out of hand, even dangerous,
thats an abberation, not the norm. IF we're not ignorant, and we gamers presume we are not, then we really should not fear the open exchange of ideas including philosophy.. and by extension, religion.

To put the reference in its proper framework, I was talking in the other thread about the nature of reality, how its a mutually agreed upon structure - that nothing exists if we dont all agree it does. In doing so, I happened to mention that the bible can be read from a perspective that supports the idea. That got the thread closed.
