[OT] Bali terrorist attacks

Last night, a bomb went off at a nightclub in Bali, so far killing over 180 people, many of them Australians. It is not confirmed to be a terrorist act as of yet, but it is most likely. Specifically, it is thought to be done by a group linked directly to Al-Queda. Let's hope not.

I have to say when I first heard about this I was quited stunned, but in retrospect not really suprised.

I hope no-one on the boards has any loved ones involved in this tragedy.

182 dead, and it now looks like it was a car bomb. Let's hope nothing else happens (ie the gas and electrical plants we have had warnings about - I live right near the Longford gas plant that partially blew up a few years back; this would be much much worse)!

Umm, actually, I only ever scan the headlines and look at the pictures. I read the sport section cover-to-cover though. Apparently Brett kimmorley's not coming to Parra because his legal wrangles have him tied up until December.

Looks like we'll have to make do with Paul Green.

Indonesia hasn't been the best place for foreigners for a long time. We've had a confrontation between a military truck with its personnel and a school bus near Jakarta International School, the occasional bomb threat at the same--though the last was quickly traced to a middle school student--, and then the low grade general unpleasantness of name throwing and rock pitching.

As I write this I know that some Indonesians are cheering in glorification of the attacks; I know with equal surety that some Indonesians are shocked by what these murderers have done.

On a more positive note, I have to thank you Aussies for sending medical aid, for offering investigative aid (refused by the Indonesian government, of course), and for offering to take care and help evacuate Canadians vacationing in Bali.

I hope and pray for those who have died to whet the hate of others.
