[OT] Baseball playoffs

For the better part of 25 years, I have been rooting for the Angels and the Cardinals so it should come as no surprise that I think may be the greatest post season ever. I suddenly find myself faced with possibility that my two favorite teams could play each other in the world series. Do I want to win one for the Cowboy or win one for DK? Either way, I look forward to (again) screaming my head off at the Ed on Friday and later watching Jackie Autry awarding the American League trophy to the Angels. There won't be a dry eye in my house when that happens.

Light Up the Halo, it's another Angels victory!

Go Redbirds!

When the playoffs started I had but two wishes. That the Yankees would get beat and that the Cardinals would get beat. Well so far I have gotten on wish to come true. I am still praying that the Cardinals get beat by the Giants or Braves (I'm hoping Giants). Did I mention that I am a long suffering Cubs fan :(

I got into baseball late... Had a by-and-by interest in it through the late 90s, didn't really get into it until the 2000 season... The Angels 2000 season.

They didn't make it to the playoffs, they weren't an amazing team in a lot of respect -- but they played the game with a fire that made their games purely exciting to watch. They played hard, they played well, they played the game like it was fun. And it was fun just watching. They staged comebacks, made brilliant plays when it counted, and all things considered just put more oomph into the game than any other team.

I remember back in 2000, Angels were playing at Yankee stadium, had a lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Then the Yankees tie it. Then, with a runner on second, they hit a solid single into left-center... And, while the fans are already celebrating, Darin Erstad leaps up out of absolutely nowhere and catches it.

Then leads off the tenth, and hits a home run.

That was the Angels of 2000 -- and that's the Angels of 2002. Doing the impossible, and doing it when it counts.

So I can't say I really understand what waiting 16 years is like -- I only had to wait two. And I can't say it really took me by surprise, either: David Eckstein, Darin Erstad, Jarrod Washburn, Tim Salmon, Garret Anderson, Rex Hudler, the Rally Monkey... That much fight, that much pure energy, that much will to win was bound to come up big for them sooner or later.

All that, and it's just plain fun to watch Eckstein totally rock out in the on-deck circle, isn't it?
