Somebody please explain this commercial to me:

Woman applies Crest Night Effects whitening stuff to her teeth. She goes to bed and has a dream about Irish dancing with a line of William Shatners all dressed in white. She wake up and kisses her husband.

Is he supposed to represent, like, teeth?

It's a very disturbing image for some reason.

Its funny when a commercial actually scars you and makes you refuse to ever even look at the product...seems to be a more recent trend, too.

Actually, I think William Shatner dancing is symbolic of the scouring and cleaning power of the whitening substance.

Just as it scours your teeth, cleaning away stains.

Dreams of William Shatner dancing scours your mind, cleaning away sanity.

Of course, I haven't seen the commercial...

Sounds like the advertising company was stumped on how to sell consumers (women in their 20s and 30s it appears) bleaching chemicals that you tape to your teeth while you sleep.

My take on it is that the dancing implies that sticking chemicals in your mouth to whiten your teeth while you slumber blissfully, is a fun and frivolous activity.

Why, it's just like doing a celtic line dance! It's jolly and fun and there's nothing to worry about like side effects from the bleaching agents dissolving in your saliva and being ingested.

William Shatner is the "funny" angle there to further distract you from thinking about what the hell it is your doing to yourself.

Kissing the husband/boyfriend/significant other the next morning implies that the "tooth tape" will bring you love and happiness and good morning breath, I guess.

I'm going to have to second this, knowing what I do of Shatners musical abilty...

at least it wasn't in Esperanto...like that movie he did...

How glad I am to find someone else bothered by this commercial, first time I saw it, I tried my hardest to figure it out and the only thing I could come up with was that it was one of those freaking dreams you wake up from going "what did I eat to make me dream that!" :)

As far as those whiten strips and things like that, shows how vain we are becoming. Plus it does not replace the benifits of brushing, which I think could be a result after a while, seeing people brush less and using whiter!

Oh yeah...

Have you ever heard that King Missile song "The Commercial"?

King Missle...wasn't that the band with the "detachable p@#nis" song?

(apologies to all grandmothers)
