[OT CRPG] Dungeon Siege

Yes, I just bought it at lunch and I want to leave work now, please.

Microsoft is the publisher. Gas Powered Games by Chris Taylor (creator of Total Annihilation) created this game.

The game can be a click fest but you have some excellent strategy planning and the AI seems well done, i.e., characters don't stand there and die. Though, I wouldn't recommend sitting by and watching. :D But the main, and huge difference is the 3D world you are in. It is simply amazing. There are truly no load screens. This is a continuous romp through a beautifully done world.

And the 3D camera.... I am speechless about how friggin' easy it is to move the camera perspective. I have yet (and I played for 8 hours straight yesterday) to lose my characters or the scene of action with the camera. I didn't have to look at the manual to figure this out. That, to me, is a good thing.

This is the way Diablo should have been (my opinion only). This is the way Pool of Radiance II should have been.

If you're looking for a Baldur's Gate depth of RPG.... this isn't it. But that's OK with me. I loved Baldur's Gate but I'm more strategy-minded and love combat.

Go out and buy it. :D

Microsoft did have some involvement beyond publishing, but that is irrelevant. The game does as machine mentioned blow diablo away in terms of graphics. The game is very diablo-esque, but compared graphically to DiabloII and it is like Diablo was made in the Ultima III era by comparison ;)... admittedly a little exaggeration there, but see it yourself and be the judge.

I just got it this weekend - something to tide me over until Morrowind comes out. I haven't logged all that much time into it yet, so I can't say that much about it. The graphics and the world design are pretty cool. None of my characters have any cool spells though, a few ranged combat spells and some healing magic. Hopefully, there is some cooler magic out there. So far none of the encounters have been very challenging. You pretty much just have to keep an eye on your health and drink a potion when it gets low, and there are a ton of health/mana potions around. Well I'll have to put some more hours into it, before I can decide how I feel about this game. Put it does have a nice look.

Just wait - the combat quickly becomes more challenging, potions more sparse, and the monsters more plentiful. There have been a couple battles so far where I barely survived by the seat of my pants - managed to kill off the last of the baddies with a mage and the packmule left - the mage was at around 10% health, and it was a lucky kick from the mule that killed the last critter. I love that packmule. Plus, he carries around phat lewt, and what more can you ask for?

LOL! So the packmule fights too? Man, I have to get this game! :D

The Packmule ROCKS! In fact, you can actually have an entire party of nothing but you and your pack Mules. Multiple Pack Mules are great for the loot :D. Mind you, that was in the beta, I have to get my RTM copy soon.

GAME ON!

Cant have a party of nothing but mules, need at least one sentient character.

And mules will fight only in defence, you cant order them to attack.

Great!

And, now, on to the most important question: how is the editor? After all, it is the sole reason I want the game... Is it user friendly? Does it allow you to really create huge and beautiful levels in a few days?

Some of the rooms and combat encounters are HUGE. So far it's proven to be fun. If you are looking for depth, forget it -- wait for Morrowind. If you are looking for something Diablo-esque then this may be a good purchase. It really picks up when you put together a decent party(you start out solo). So far so good, it may not meet the hype, but it is pretty fun. In fact, I'd like to take off from work and play it right now.
