[OT CRPG] Dungeon Siege

I find myself cursing the AI from time to time, like when my party of 6 (I have 2 mules) is fighting a couple Trolls, and one monster decides to run away, then comes back with five friends! While the party is dealing with the new challengers, a couple of their buddies who DIDN'T come to join the fight sneaks around behind the treeline and tries to eat my mules!

I love this game!

Yeah, I never know what to do with my pack mule. Sometimes I leave it WAY behind, but then I have to wait for it to catch up and pick up all my treasure. Sometimes I bring it along and it ends up being attacked. I like the mule kick and the way gear piles up on the mule as you accomulate more loot, pretty cool.

Let me just add to the kudos surrounding the game AI.

The monster AI is relatively good -- reinforcements if any are available, ranged support for melee monsters, a bit of actual tactics from the smarter monsters -- but the PARTY AI is incredible.

Mules will actually run away from the party a short distance when the group is under attack and then return when the party is safe. Characters will respond if another character gets attacked. The options for your party are simple to use and understand, making it a breeze to switch people to the defensive if necessary. Healing is nearly automatic if you have the right spells armed, as the nature magic user will heal each person in the party as they go below half health.

The skills system is a breeze -- just pick what you want a character do and have them practice it. They'll quickly learn the basics before progressing more slowly to advanced skill.

It's not another Baldur's Gate in terms of storyline and things to do. It's a relatively linear game. But it is the most fun dungeon romp I've ever seen. For inspiration and ease of play, it's as revolutionary as the original point'n'click dungeon crawlers...

By the way -- the fact that you only drink as much of a potion as you need is just plain brilliant. You'd think someone else would have come up with that idea by now...

Great!

And, now, on to the most important question: how is the editor? After all, it is the sole reason I want the game... Is it user friendly? Does it allow you to really create huge and beautiful levels in a few days?

The editor has a few bugs they are fixing up, It should be out around May timeframe. I'm not sure about the few days timeframe, I imagine it depends on if all you do is create the levels, or if you pause to eat and sleep. ;)

Swamp witches...no good. Much pain. My first encounter with these little lovelies had already gone on about 5 minutes before I realized what they were up to.

I also just want to know what sadist desided to give goblins the mechanical knowledge of gnomes. I'm dealing with these guys now. ARGH...FIRE BAD!

By the way I'm wondering if anyone else has given any thought to converting the dwarven mines and the goblin dungeon to 3ed modules?

I think this entire game would make a nice relatively linear 3ed series of modules. The side quests would make nice one or two nighters to inject into the campaign.

So far I'm really enjoying this game and I haven't even messed around with the multiplayer game yet.

I've read detailed accounts of people playing this game. It sounds like Diablo with better graphics. Little NPC interaction and no inter-party interaction, just hack, hack, hack.

[seinfeld]...not that there's anything wrong with that.[/seinfeld] Just thought that I'd warn those that think it's like NWN or Morrowind that it's more along the line of Diablo.

While the game is pretty much like Diablo in that there's no character interaction, I the image of a party of heroes advancing through a darkened forest with weapons drawn really sticks in my mind. The environments are amazing.
