Actually, Green Eggs & Ham was the 50 word bet; Cat in the Hat was based on a 223 word list contest of some sort. He proved that, no matter what strictures you put him under, he could make something from it that stood the test of time.

Look up a book by either Seuss or Geisel (his real last name) called "The seven lady godivas"

EDIT - I should be clearer on this, after having done a little more research into TSLG's. This was an "adult" book, but not some of his more randy work

I have that book! Actually, the only really "adult" thing about it is that the Godiva sisters are naked. *looks at book* They don't even have nipples. Odd.

It's actually pretty funny. They have to fulfill a promise to their father before they can run off to get married. I'd recommend it as a cute coffee table sort of book.

Besides, young children (in my experience) do much better with 'suspension of disbelief' than do adults. Ask your child if pets could easily serve as household appliances.
Yup. Just asked my 3-year-old if we could use the cat to cook toast. She thought it was the best idea she'd heard all day.
